Hi everyone

I’m an independent iOS developer interested in mobile music production, AUv3 instruments, step sequencers, and chiptune / 8-bit sounds.

I’m here to learn more about real iOS music workflows, especially how people use apps and AUv3 instruments inside hosts like Loopy Pro. I’m also building my own iOS music app, so I’m hoping to learn from the community and contribute where I can.

Happy to be here!

    Hi @NingXx

I’m always glad to interact with a developer who’s interested in iOS music apps. I’ve got my own set of favorite apps and workflow, so I’ll be watching this thread with great interest.

I love that type of music too.

Be sure to ask any questions you may have regarding workflows and such. :)

@NingXx what are you already aware of in regards to ios workflows? In other words what are some of yours? We can share :)

    And hi

Different colors work quite well when paired correctly, but personally, I prefer black—it’s full of mystery.

    And hi

    Good question :)

To be honest, my main reference point right now is my own app. It’s an iPhone/iPad 8-bit music sketchpad with a standalone sequencer and a simple AUv3 synth.

My current workflow is usually: build a quick drum/melody idea in the standalone app, then either export MIDI/audio, or use the AUv3 inside another host if I want to keep working there.

The AUv3 side is still fairly simple, so I’m not trying to present it as a big deep synth. I’m more interested in understanding what would make a small, focused AUv3 actually useful in real iOS workflows.

Right now I’m thinking about things like quick presets, low CPU use, clear controls, solid MIDI note response, and making it easy to use without too many menus.

But my workflow is only one angle, which is why I’m asking here. I’d really love to learn how people who use Loopy Pro, AUM, Drambo, GarageBand, etc. actually use smaller AUv3 instruments.

If you’re willing to share yours, I’d be very grateful.

  • Sounds interesting, always nice to see new takes on chip sounds, modern features like probability and intuitive sequencing are what I look for, as well as ways to really mash/glitch up the sound generation…
