Personal Single Hardware Synth Challenge: First Entry - Roland Aira S-1

I’ve start to collect a few hardware synths in recent years after over a decade of being virtual instruments only (i.e. 100% iOS production with MIDI controllers). While I tended to do A LOT of noodling (and some song idea creation) on the hardware synths, I always found myself coming back to virtual instruments for recording given the ease of the “set-up-and-go."

This summer I decided to challenge myself to doing one track with each hardware synth using only sounds from a specific synth on each song (except for drums, which are handled by the “build a drum machine” module in Logic.)

First out of the gate is the Roland Aira S-1. Of note, I usually use presets (factory or other) in my tracks, and this track is atypical in that over half the sounds used I built from scratch on the S-1 (the bass, lead, and keys).

    From the first note I could tell this was going to be a fun track. I’m not familiar with the Aria S-1. It has some big, classic 80s synth sounds. Enjoyed this a lot. My wife asked me what I was listening to. I have a few oldies stored in the closet. I’ve been tempted to pull them out and jam. Hope you are enjoying your 4th of July. It looks like rain today here in Chicago. Fortunately, we can see them from the back yard!

    Thank you @Paulieworld ! The S-1 is a compact (i.e. little box with lots of knobs) remake of the Roland SH101 from the early 80's (if you are familiar with that synth), hence the big classic 80's synth sounds. I needed a MIDI controller to really be able to play it, but it's amazing to hear such big sounds coming such a small box.

    Happy 4th (and 250th) to you as well. I'm sweltering in central California heat, but clear skies for fireworks is a nice offset.

    Thanks for posting that. That was a fun way to get me moving this Saturday. (I'm listening while doing Saturday chores.) Really sweet.
    I have the S-1 also. I would think it's a great sounding synth at almost any price, it's surprisingly awesome. You really showed it off well.

    You've done the S-1 proud here. This is a great example of how restrictions can help us rather than hinder. Like @Paulieworld and @abf say, it's fun and bounces along nicely for the whole song.
