Blueboard for Dummies (2026)
I’m looking for a foot controller that is easy to setup and easy to use with LP. I’m asking for a friend who is a consumate musician (violinist and conductor) but new to electronic music and looping. Because he plays electric violin, he needs foot control. He’s so new to electronic music that things I take for granted (“MIDI never transmits audio; control signals only.”) are an adventure. Besides helping a friend, I see this as an opportunity to bridge between the LP world and the hard-core classical music world.
Question #1: Would you recommend Blueboard for my friend? I see in past posts a litany of problems with firmware, configuration, etc. If I buy a Blueboard today, are these issues resolved?
Question #2: What is the latest firmware version so if I buy used I can ask about that before I buy?
Question #3: Is there a page or video in the LP Forum network that gives step-by-step instructions for setting up Blueboard to work with LP?
Question #4: Or should I recommend something else? Wireless is not a requirement, but would be the simplest for a portable rig. How about the M-Vave Chocolate? KMI Softstep?
I know this is a lot to ask, but I searched the Forum and didn’t find any recent posts, just old problems. So this could be useful to create an updated thread for posterity.

I bet you could get a new BlueBoard. If it’s the newer version then there is no problem. You may not even need to update the firmware. Just don’t update the firmware of an “old” BlueBoard using the app. It will fail, and brick the BlueBoard. Any purchase from Amazon new should be fine.
I have not used with LP.
Can’t speak about other foot controllers

As a Blueboard user, I'm not sure I would recommend it for a beginner, moreover if your friend is not into technical stuff.
As a matter of fact, the Blueboard is not plug&play: you have to install and launch its app. Nothing too complicated, but, you know, it's an additional step.
And also, the silicon pads are not the best.
Maybe you could have a look at the very popular M-Vave chocolate footswitch
The M-vave chocolate also requires installation of an app to configure it…and for best results with Loopy Pro, the configuration needs to be changed.
Thanks for this. I’ve already advised my friend to stick with a few simple wired pedals for now. He’s very much not a techy, so baby steps …
But for me, I’m thinking of going wireless. I can handle setting up with an app. What I can’t abide is flakey software and surprises, like an old version being bricked. I like clicky switches—I have the Softstep, but never warmed up to it because of the rubber switches.
What are the pros and cons of M-Vave Chocolate for using with LP?
