Portable audio interface recommendations? (iPad)

edited December 2014 in General App Discussion

Ok so I want better audio and midi capabilities for my iPad Air..
Need midi, stereo line in and stereo line out.

First choice was iRig pro but then discovered that it doesn't have a stereo line input..

Next was line 6 sonic port, looks really great but no midi..

Anyone got any ideas or suggestions?

  • Oh and bus powered too :)

  • Apogee Duet - powers the iPad and has USB midi, though doesn't support a powered hub (so only a single controller), but only coremidi compatible devices work with them.

  • Yeah I want DIN midi so it looks like the roland duo is the best yet
    Thanks @bonso

  • Akai EIE, but you'll have to split out a stereo signal across 2 channels. It supports midi DIN and USB.

Yeah I already have a focusrite 18i6 that supports the iPad, but I'm after a portable solution for gigs and jams :) Akai eie is too big and needs mains power

  • Behringer IS-202. Only thing is it will not charge an IPad's battery while it runs on battery power. It kind of breaks even on battery power, the IPad definitely doesn't power any of the accessory items.

  • Ha just bring along a car battery like @supadom

  • I'm quite fond of my X-Station 25. As it's a full synth/controller it's a bit on the large side for just tossing in a backpack, but it's an audio/midi interface and knobby controller keyboard in one. Can be battery and bus powered (I hook it up to a powered hub).

Otherwise you might just want to hold out for the iConnectAudio4+, which is due to be released soon.

  • These 12AH USB batteries hold u for many hours and are pretty small, so a powered hub using one is quite portable. then you can go cheap with USB MIDI, HDE MIDI interfaces, UAC 202 audio, etc.

  • I'd like to make my Tascam IU2 run via a powered hub and a portable battery but don't know what I'd need.
