Solitvde Reverb from Horse Parade (Released)

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/solitvde-reverb/id6780620671

Solitvde is a modulating shimmer reverb AUv3.

We've packed early reflections, a diffusion engine, a modulation tank and a feedback delay network into one streamlined signal path, all tuned to run light on CPU.

Inside the recirculating tank, a few granular pitch-shifting lines give a glassy, climbing shimmer.

It's built around one principle: tweaking a parameter never introduces a click or a pop. Every control is modulation-safe from the get-go, which opens up a whole second range of expression and modulation to explore.

Two tempo-syncable LFOs, a random source, and an envelope follower tracking the input can route to almost any control, so the space and time of the reverb fold in on themselves to give us solitude, at long last.

FEATURES

  • Eight-line feedback delay network: Size, Density, and a true RT60 Decay in seconds.
  • Recirculating octave and fifth shimmer voices.
  • Two-pole tail damping that can roll off the high end.
  • Freeze as an amount, rather than a toggle, to hold the tail indefinitely.
  • Multimode output filter (low-pass, high-pass, band-pass), and low cut to prevent rumble accumulating.
  • Pre-delay, early reflections, stereo width, and mix controls.
  • Modulation matrix: two LFOs, a random source, and an envelope follower, routable to almost any control. Assign a source on a fader. LFOs sync to host tempo.
  • Factory presets to start from, plus the option to save your own.

COMPATIBILITY (macOS)
Runs standalone and as an AUv3 audio unit. Compatible with Logic Pro, Ableton Live, GarageBand, and any host that supports AUv3 effects on macOS 14 or later.

COMPATIBILITY (iOS)
Runs standalone and as an AUv3 audio unit. Compatible with GarageBand, AUM, Cubasis, and any host that supports AUv3 effects on iOS 17 or later.

Hey - that's me ^

I've got a new app that's just released this morning, it should be available in the app store now.

There's a video and a couple of audio demos here - https://horse-parade.com/solitvde/

Massive thanks to @Gavinski for helping out on the testing / design of this one, it's definitely in a much better place as a result of your feedback :D

I'm looking for any feedback and would love to hear what people are making with this because I think the bounds of it aren't very well known to me!

I'm working through an update at the moment for customising the filter placement and tweaking how the Freeze control works, as well as a few cosmetic tweaks.

EDIT: Just to get it out of the way - preferred pronunciation is "soluh-chewed" not "soluh-tfvd" 😅

Comments

  • The USP of this effect presumably being the modulation options? The "shifting space" demo is kinda cool. It would be nice to see some more demo videos, maybe Gavinski has something in the works?

(I know it's not much money, but I already have sooo many reverbs, I need a reason to buy this other than "it's cheap" 😆)

  • I was intrigued by the demo so I gave it a go. The execution is good, the UI is slick and easy to use, the CPU usage is stable and stays low, but overall I'd say it is not a good fit for me.

It reminds me more of Other Desert Cities than of a standard reverb, and after testing it on nylon string guitar, voice, drums, and overall master effect, I haven't found anything that would make me keep it. I already use Cascade, Xenoverb and Other Desert Cities and there's nothing that this plugin adds to this selection. And I didn't like how it sounded to be perfectly honest, but I know I'm very particular about the sounds of my effects, and I'd say the same for some really popular reverbs, so this is just my opinion there.

I'm sorry if I come across all negative here, I'd still want to support the dev as this seems a solid and well thought out plugin, but there are already so many reverbs out there that it tends to set expectations high for a new one.

One never has enough reverbs :D

Hey - Thanks so much for the feedback, even though it's not resonating with you, I truly appreciate your willingness to give it a go, and also providing some valuable feedback about why.

I'm in the process of fixing up a few things that I'm not quite happy with myself and looking to put out an update in the coming few days. The specific things that'll be arriving in that will be:

    • The freeze parameter seems to lose energy over time, e.g. not freezing  - I think this is probably the result of both the shimmer & the filters diffusing energy in different directions.
    • The filter placement is static at the moment, when it too should be re-routable.
    • There's a couple of clicks, pops and zips at some of the higher modulation amounts - but that violates the whole guarantee.

Longer term I'm looking to shift some of the swell / output params to just be a single, placeable VCA & adding a side-chain mod source.

So definitely still the beginning of the journey with this one, it's my first stab at building a reverb - but I'm confident about the next steps. Absolutely open to more feedback regarding the tone of the reverb itself if you've got it!

Hopefully the above gives a bit of a sense about the sales pitch, but Gavs also got a video up on his Patreon that I'd recommend checking out, and I expect there will be a few more videos out in the not too distant future.
