England vs France

…in the battle of the Horns !
You weren’t expecting something about football were you 😊
SWAM English Horn and French Horn in a sort of sad (Neo)Classical piece with a backing provided by Decent Sampler, BeatHawk and Speldosa.

This is a video of a slightly different version that shows the use of a modified GeoShred control surface to swap the horns in and out and to switch the LFO off which is varying the volumes of percussion and Speldosa.

  • That one really got me for a moment! I was already thinking, how’s he going to dress that up. But this serene battle really appeals to me. I just don’t want to call it a battle but a symbiosis! frenq <3

  • I was expecting to see your hometown video of them battling at the yearly International Brass Band Contest, ha-ha.

The SC version is somber as you mentioned. The YT version is my personal favorite. It has a delicate feel to it that I like.

I didn’t hear percussion in either version except for the distant explosion at the very end. And I’m not listening through my phone speakers. But I do have a fan running which could have possibly masked the percussion.

  • very B)

  • Thanks @frenq… funnily enough I didn’t know that there would be an England / France match when I started the track a while ago ⚽️
    Cheers @Blipsford_Baubie and @zvon 👍
The percussion is just single hits (by MelodyBud) on the Grand Cassa from the Classical Percussion pack in BeatHawk.
The volume is being varied by an LFO so varies as to how obvious it is. Thanks for taking the time to listen to both versions @Blipsford_Baubie 🙏

  • I like both versions. Perfect for an early Saturday morning and a nice cup of black coffee. For some reason, I thought of Eric Dolphy playing the bass clarinet. Does Geoshred have a muted trumpet? A few parts sounded like something Miles Davis might have played. I was planning on doing some loud rock music today, but you changed my mind. Have a great day.

  • Thanks @Paulieworld !
I do like a Bass Clarinet, John Surman is my favourite player.
Yes both the Geo and SWAM versions of Trumpets have the full range of mutes.
Hope you had / will have a great day 👍

  • @GeoTony As Wikipedia will delight in telling you, the English Horn is neither English nor a horn. And the French horn with rotary valves is more German than French. But your title is a clever bit of click-baitery nonetheless. Looks like you’re using buttons on the GeoShred control surface to mute AUM so you can swap / layer the sounds. Ingenious.

It’s good to hear the cor anglais as I think this the sound I hear in my head and wonder why I can’t get it from SWAM oboe.

Another calming floaty piece. The Speldosa ‘bongs’ blend well. Thanks again for feeding my ears and stirring the grey cells.
