Which setup would you choose
Hi I am in a bit of a dilemma. I am not sure whether to buy an Alesis io dock and plug my korg triton into it as a controller or to buy a novation launchkey 49. What do you think?

Do you have an audio interface already? That's part of what the io dock provides. Problem with any dock is that Apple changes the sizes and positioning of things occasionally.
Hi thanks for your help. No I am just Using the keyboards which comes with apps, which is a bit limiting, which is why I thought the full size keys of an external keyboard would be great. But having a korg triton already got me thinking that maybe I could use it with an io dock unless there are some problems I don't know about.

Docks are not future proof so if you're planing to upgrade your ipad at least every 2 years I'd go for a standalone solution. There's plenty of good interfaces around. Check the pinned thread.
Buying a keyboard controller would be cheaper and give you controller knobs.
I am using a Korg M50 as a controller for my ipad and also use it with Karma and go right from the audio outs into the ipad for recording via a Griffin Studio connect ~
The Griffin also has a midi in for using the korg as a controller but I prefer the lightning from usb. The Griffin can be had for less than 90 bucks and you can also plug in guitars or other synths as well.
I got the Alesis iO Dock II for my iPad Air 2. It's not officially supported because of the physical size of the Air 2, but it works well regardless. Charges up my iPad and enables easy connection of audio and midi in and out. I like running live audio from my synth through Turnado, and layering it with iOS synths, controlling it all with midi from my synth. Fun, fun, fun!
