IMO an incredible songwriter and performer.

  • Man that sucks. :( I haven't listened to The Frames much, but I remember liking the music very much.

Imagine writing a song that became the centerpiece of a movie, a play based on the movie and an Oscar for that song.

  • RIP.
If you haven't seen 'Once', it may be worth a watch. It's special and memorable. A musical, but so good. Gut-wrenching tear-jerker.
The movie and its album are so simple but emotional - you can hear the pain in the two's voices, especially his. From soft and sweet to heart-ripping desperation/anger.
    So sad.

  • Way too young. RIP.
The Commitments is also worth watching.

  • He recently released a live album that is very good.
Friends of mine work for the Pabst Theatre group in Milwaukee, WI. They texted a photo a while ago asking “do you know this artist?”
They said it was one of the best they’d seen.

That's cool. And I live in Milwaukee lol.

Oh jeez, didn't initially remember from the name who he was. Falling Slowly was a very powerful track. Died in a motorbike crash...4:30am after a night in the pub, no one else involved in the crash...had been a hard drinker but had apparently gone sober after the birth of his child a few years ago.

Agreed Falling Slowly is a beautiful song but he was very prolific.
Check out his work with Swell Season as well.

  • That one also hit me quite a bit :(
Once really got under my skin when I watched it back then. Such a good and passionate soul.

  • If you like drone stuff, strangely his band Frames did a really nice song that is kinda folk indie drone called "Santa Maria" .

I don't really know much about him, but a friend took me to see him live in Florence about 10 years ago, it was a fantastic concert.

    Really sad news

  • Honestly such sad news. That song and movie helped me whilst I went through massively hard time in my life. My thoughts are with his family.
