Hey folks, looking for some help from devs regards App Store reviews.
I’ve been waiting for reviews to pop up on WAIL on the App Store, aware not many people do that these days. First one popped up today and it was this frustratingly.
Left on Monday, It’s showing as the only review with a 3 star rating overall.
I’ll just say, I don’t expect any app, especially mine, to automatically get a 5 star review from anyone, but to get it as the apps first visible review on a fixable thing is a bit of a gut punch. Trying not to take it personal but I know those stars matter to Joe Public and takes the tarnish off showing it off a bit.
I’ve just logged onto App Store Connect to post a response and noticed more reviews i hadn’t seen; 6 five star ratings including one with a written review, which isn’t showing on my App Store. Overall 4.7 out of 5. The positive review was left before the 3 star. The 3 star is a UK review with the other being USA.
So my question is, does the App Store eventually update to an overall review, or am I stuck with that score until someone in the UK writes something? Are they regionalised? I always assumed app reviews were global. Google gives a generalised answer so coming to those with experience.
Don’t want to come across as moaning ha, just new dev jitters, I’m just thickening up my skin and looking for some hope with it improving.

No reviews that I have entered for several years have been published. I looked into it, got nowhere and gave up. I have a feeling the review system is borked. It is a 5 star app in my opinion. 😎✌🏼
Annoying, but yes, ratings and reviews are regional. Hopefully some UK buyers will leave 5 star reviews and that will bring your UK rating up.

It's kinda nuts that reviews are filtered by region when an app isn't region-specific. And I'm sure some kind of auto-translate in the case of language differences in different regions wouldn't be beyond the capability of a tech company like Apple...
Sadly, we also live in an age where angry / disappointed customers are more likely to fire off a CAPS LOCK review than your happy / satisfied ones.
I've even been threatened with negative review campaigns unless I add a certain feature to a certain app.
On a more positive note, I think certainly in the case of music apps, potential buyers are more likely to trust the opinion of an established reviewer / YouTuber like @Gavinski et al, than a random 5 star "wowie zowie" review from the developer's mom
I suggest you leave a reply, at minimum acknowledging an issue if it is legit, but really reply once it has been dealt with. The reviews are all dated, and I look at the date of comments pointing out early bugs. If the Dev doesn’t reply, it can be off putting and make me less likely to purchase. Bug reports are fine, but bug fixes are golden.
Make sure your contact info is easy to find on the AppStore page. And don’t assume everyone is on a social media platform. If they cannot quickly and easily find a way to contact you, they are likely to use the Appstore review to get through to you. I am aware enough to not use review to bug report, but given no clear alternative I would definitely use review to report a fatal bug, but not just an annoying bug.

FWIW, a lot of bad reviews are written by people who do not bother to contact the developer even when the developer is easy to contact and has a link to send support messages from within the app and makes their contact info easy to find.
It can be pretty infuriating. In such cases, one prays that the App Store chooses to publish the developer reply.

yeah, but FWIW, it prolly better to do everything possible to make it easiest to contact the dev. if people still use a review to bug report then it would out of the dev’s control. if its a bad review, then its a bad review. thats bound to happen even if the app is considered perfection by most people.

Reviews can be edited. I guess the only leverage is to fix the problem and reply to the review with the news.

At least it was an actual issue. You can't fix stupid, like "this midi app makes no sound"
There was a time, going back a few years now, when the developer couldn't even respond to reviews.
But yeah, that's a good call. You've really got to dial-up the diplomacy though, however silly or snarky the review itself may be.

Yes it's tough. I work with a muzzle on. Probably why I have had the odd conflict outside work. I feel for you because I'm in a similar position.

Bought. UK 5 star review left. Unbelievable sounds, can't wait to get stuck in. This will sound amazing for more genres of music than you might first think. With a gate like Perforator or something like Flux Pro you've got a Psytrance top in no time. Obviously on dark ambient this will be incredible.
I agree that the XYs really need to output midi but automating the exposed parameters in a DAW is still great fun.
I read that you don't want to label the XYs and I get what you're saying BUT you've had to give them names behind the scenes... maybe compromise with a toggle or menu option to show names?
Hey thanks so much! Glad you like it and yes I agree, loads of scope in loads of genres for it with auv3 fx. I use it in Gatelab to get it playing a riff then change the parameters without affecting the pattern.
And thanks for the suggestions, I’ll put them on the list for consideration. Still trying to sort this midi out recording on the pads but I’m about to go away on holiday though so will be late August / early Sept before it’s fixed.
