  • Hey @supadom - just wondering how you're liking the EIE so far.

  • Are we waiting an update of samplr?

Yeah, it's good. The built quality is fantastic and I really like the fact that if I unplug the ipad usb lead and replug it again it just reconnects all the bits without moaning unlike other interfaces (hear that novation audiohub?). I'm also enjoying the 4 in 4 out bliss.

There are 2 things that make me wonder though. Firstly even when the volume on channels is all the way down there is some bleed (definitely with ch 2 haven't tried others). Also I've noticed that when I plug my guitar mono signal from tone stack on the iphone via input 1 if the switch is on stereo the sound has a fake stereo effect. When I switch it back to mono it sounds as it should, weird. I think it has something to do with hearing direct monitoring and processed signal at the same time even though they're split left and right. Do you get these two things that I just mentioned?

I also have some slight latency issues but I thing mimix is the culprit as I had to add it in order to get to use the extra outs at the expense of ram. I really hope audiobus itself will start supporting multi out @Sebastian?

    Hi
Are the reloop yours? Is it good do you recommend it?

Not quite yet. I like it but I had couple of instances when I got hung notes which worries me a bit. Otherwise seems fine. It's comforting to know that after an hour of assigning controls one still has some 10 knobs spare. If I keep getting those stuck notes I'm going to chase reloop even though I bought it second hand.

Im between Novation Launchkey 25 and That reloop but i hear is very plastic

I've had novation launchkey mini and found it very similar. Yes the actual casing of launchkey is sturdier but everything else is comparable. I didn't like the pads on novation, every time you hit them they behave differently, they're weird and also smaller but admittedly the rubber on Novation feels a bit nicer but we're not talking dildos here so akai is the winner AFAIC. Reloop is like akai which I like. It has less spongy keys than akai though, making them more accurate when you hit them.

  • @supadom - I definitely haven't noticed either issue, but that might be due to how I'm using it. In the case of bleed through, I'm most often just using a single channel, except when my friends are over for a jam, and it hasn't been apparent then. In the case of the stereo issue, I don't recall using the stereo setting with mono sources, plus I am almost always going out into the PA, which is mono i/p on all channels. The next time I get a chance, I'll listen through some headphones to see if I can hear it.

  • The stereo/mono switch I'm talking about is on the far right and pertains to the main mix but somehow affects the headphones too. Not sure, should read the manual really ;). Thanks @funjunkie27

  • I'll be tied up with work and the holidays, so I might not be able to get to it for a few days @suprdom, but I'll see if I can recreate that setup and see how it sounds.

  • Still waiting for christmas.....ähhh samplr...;-)

  • Not to worry @funjunkie27 I have a full year proper warranty as I bought it in proper shop, not online as I usually do.

I get occasional stuck notes, the latency at times is suspect (no crackling though), mimix app at times defaults all output channels to main mix without an apparent reason. This sucks because I was hoping to send the click track to the drummer.

I tried a long test with my EIE but this never happened to me. MiMiX only defaults to main mix when the audio interface disconnects. There might be some contact problems or power problems there? So Your EIE sometimes disconnects all by itself?
The Reloop Keypad is powered by USB. Does the EIE have powered USB hub built-in? I found no info on this. It might be that the Reloop Keypad sometimes draws too much power and thus EIE resets itself, and so the stuck notes and disconnects could happen. Ever tried this with a powered hub plugged in the EIE?

As for latency, i tried the following: connected my iPhone to the EIE on CH1&2, played come claps i recorded with loopy. The EIE was connected to my iPad, MiMiX getting system input CH1&2 on port1 via Audiobus. If i use headphones and turn the Monitor knob on the EIE (lover right corner) to noon, so it mixes the in and out signals i can hear both the incoming and outgoing signal, thus hearing the latency. Then i tried different latency settings in Audiobus. 128 frames seemed quite okay for me, 256 is not so good, 512,1024 is quite late.

  • Okay, my assumption is bad. The EIE can charge my iPhone thus it is powered. :-)

I am having problems with my apogee one disconnecting occasionally too. I'm pretty sure it gets enough power, though. So I wonder if it could be a problem with AB, iOS 8.1 or the iPhone 6... Or the USB hub or the apogee or the cck or the lightning extension cable... That is definitely a show stopper and makes my setup unusable for any live use. I'll have to experiment with it some more.

  • There is a setting in MiMiX's settings bundle, called "Reset output routing upon device change". It is ON by default. Try turning it off and see if it solves this problem. Meanwhile i will check this and try to reproduce it.

Cool, thanks for looking into it. I'll try your suggestion tonight as I have a practice with the drummer so should give it a good live test run.

  • good thing you have EIE for testing ;) @TTrGames

  • Thanks for the tips @TTrGames. Btw, I'm really enjoying MiMix, particularly with the midi control and ability to have in the I/p and o/p slots of AB. Coupled with AudioShare, it's a nice light weight multi-track recorder solution.

Hope you don't need to return the EIE @supadom, but it's good that you have the option.

  • Any video/how-to-really-use-this-cool-thing-in-your-day-to-day-set-up out there for MiMiX @TTrGames?
