collaboration

About ten years ago I developed a project together with a musician and artist colleague; its basic idea was to create, through the exchange of pre-produced audio recordings and their further processing, a result detached from conventional original authorship. I would be very pleased if this idea were to be taken up again. My focus is on musique concrète, experimental electronics, ambient and noise. I would be very happy to receive feedback and comments.

  • I'm a little confused as to what the collaboration is, friend. 🙂 Could you explain a bit further?

  • they lay down a piece or you lay down a piece, and then send back and forth with additions. probably send wav stems -> project merges in a daw is my thinking.

Ah interesting. 🙂 That clears it up.

  • Can you post a starter audio clip to better understand your take on “ musique concrète, experimental electronics, ambient and noise.”. It will help find those that resonate with creators here.

A few years ago this forum collaborated on adding a custom score to the “Metropolis” sci-fi film and most of those contributions are probably exactly what I think you like to interact with.

Unfortunately, a copyright claim was lodged in YouTube and the finished film was taken down.

You can find some links to individual contributions on this thread:

  • I am very pleased about the interest and inquiries – here is a more concrete outline of a possible collaboration.
Two or more people make audio clips available to each other, for example via SMASH. These can be rearranged and deconstructed in many different ways, and used as source material for further compositions. Important here is that any resulting tracks should generally be labelled as a collaboration, naming all participating musicians, if they are to be published in any form. Commercial use should be ruled out; mutual trust is a prerequisite.
Some information about me: born in 1960 in Freiburg / Germany, studied fine art at the HdK Bremen; since around 2000 my focus has been on video and audio works. (I have lived in the countryside for a long time; contacts with other musicians/artists are very difficult, especially in this area—one quickly falls into a trap of routine; such a project could also offer a possibility for inspiration and self-criticism here.)
My native language is German, so I ask for forgiveness for my poor English…

  • Hello everyone, in the meantime I have put together four short audio clips and would like to make them available as possible starting material. I would be happy if something could develop from them. The musical structure is completely open; the material is not finished, produced works. I would very much appreciate comments and ideas.
