  • Hello, do you think is it possible to record iPad to a computer DAW through UCA222?
How should I connect this? uca222 -> usb -> PC and iPAD out -> RCA cable -> uca222 in. Is this correct?

You'd need an audio interface for each device
I have a 2i2 for my laptop but it works on iPad too. I can send audio from the laptops headphone out (mini-jack to phono lead with phono to 1/4" jack connectors) to the iPad and vice-versa; but if the audio is heavily processed (ie I'm running a load of VSTs) then my laptop grinds a bit...

I do beat videos using my ipad as a camera and the built-in mic is awful...
I'll be running audio (daw & a mic) from my laptop, through the 2i2, out the 2i2 headphone output (1/4" stereo jack to phono lead) into the UCA222 connected to ipad through the lightning to USB connection kit as soon as Christmas comes... Should also be able to send outs from iPad via UCA222s phone out to jack/xlr into the 2i2 preamps...

Only thing I now need to work out is whether I can 'sync' the iPad and PC together through midi with this setup?

  • Aanyone tried it with the iPad Air1? Also what usb hub do u recommend?

  • Hello, I'm trying to record iPad through UCA 202 into desktop DAW (reaper) but I cant afford good results. My setup actually is iPad -> hedphones out -> rca cable -> UCA 202 -> usb cabel -> PC. The recording quality is really bad, I think because I use the headphones out. I see that in your video you use CKK from iPad directly into uca 202 and recording into iPAD. But there is a way to record through CKK into desktop daw??? Really thanks

Have you tried the 'other way around' meaning plug the UCA-202 to the iPad using CCK and use the outputs from the UCA-202 and connect yo your computers audio input?(If it has audio-input).

Other way would be to 'record' the sounds into say AudioShare, put them in dropbox and import to your DAW.

Unfortunately the iPad is recognized as 'Video Device' when connected using lightning cable (To Mac OS X 10.10.x), but it's possible to record sound/video directly using QuickTime Player.

I have the UCA-202 and am so far pleased with it's performance...

I have used the behringer 202 extensively with my Air 1 and never encountered any problems. It's great. Most of the times I use it to monitor with my m50x headphones as the sound is much better than directly to of the iPad. Much better. With synths, even.
About the hub... I use a cheap one... You wouldn't know the brand because they only sell in some places in Europe but I even connect it directly to the cck and it works great.

I have not tried because I still do not have the CKK :) do you think sound quality would be better? because actually there is an HUGE difference between the sound that come from heaphones into iPad (best quality) and the sound that come from iPad into UCA through hadphones out (poor quality).
I have audio input because I have separate audio interface (ZOOM R24, unfortunately no class compliant).

Sorry, maybe I don't understand. Are you always connecting iPad into uca 202 THROUGH CKK? (and not through iPad hadphones out/uca 202 rca input?). Maybe it's why your sound experience is more better than mine.

no one? just to know before buying if CKK will improve the sound quality through behringer

It will, the output quality from the UCA-202 is a lot better that the headphone Jack on the iPad.

If I get the uca202 would I need a powered hub to connect a midi controller also? I have the m-audio air mini32. IPad Air1. Thnks

It all depends on how much the devices consume power.

I'm using a CME X-Key and the Behringer UCA-202 with an unpowered USB-Hub connected to my iPad Mini using the CCK and it works just fine.

  • Cool! Thnks Samu. Right now the iPad powers my mini32 ok thru the CCK just wondered. I'm planning on getting a cheap beringher mixer and go thru the 202. I like ability to use the 202 without any external power.

Hi, can I connect the uac 202 line out to my active monitors (m audio av40) or should I use the headphone out of the uac 202 to the monitors for best sound quality?
Btw great video Dough! I ve wached it but I saw you using the headphone out and not the line out. Or did I miss something?

You'll get the best quality by using the Line-Output of the UCA-202.
Use the headphone jack for headphones, it has a dedicated volume knob too.

  • Thank you mr. Samu!

Doug, thanks for the great video. But i didnt see a preamp used. Is a preamp really needed if I just want to record my electric guitar or bass directly into the UCA202?

  • I don't know many Guitars or Bass that output Line-Level so i think a pre-amp is needed...

  • Wow, didn't really think of that. I ordered the UCA222 from amazon, maybe should have gotten the beringher USB mixer instead. I do have an Art DIO tube pre and older one by it works great. But for portability, I thought of going straight into the UCA. Gonna watch the video again, I don't remember Doug going thru a pre tho.

  • Doug just wanted to say thanks man for your great video. It's amazing how awesome this little interface Is and for such low price.

  • So I finally had time today to hook up my acoustic guitar with the UCA interface and it really worked like a champ! Straight into the UCA to the iPad. So glad for this unit. Recorded into Auria so crystal clear! The best 29 dollars spent! Thanks Amazon for the great price!

  • I'm getting one of these for my volca cause it's dirt cheap also I'll get an unpowered hub so I can play my minilab too :)

    probably a stupid question, but...

Does anyone know of any apps that let you use an external audio input, like the behringer usb as seen here with cubase?

    preferrably one that's audiobus-compatible ?

    imagine...

    iOS9 on iPhone 4S,

  • Audioshare f.e. and any app that's mic'ing.

  • hi, thanks for the video!
I've suspected that this is possible (audio in via usb interface through CCK), but I'm struggling to find an app on iphone (4s, iOS9) that has any 'select input hardware' option... I've read that Rode Rec offers something similar to Cubase.. .

Do you know of any other apps that allow 'input hardware selection' , to monitor incoming audio via behringer's stereo-in, for example?

Would love to record my guitar directly, via background audio, without shelling out for some proprietary connection...

    T H A N K S!

  • Anyone else lost the use of their UCA 222 since updating the I OS ? The ‘device not supported’ nonsense is back again, presumably via the CCK snafu. Works fine for about one minute, as it always did, then the no go message arrives & iPad cuts the power to the UCA.

  • Yes I’m seeing exactly that too. I hadn’t used it for a while and thiught it might be some sort of hardware fault, but I guess if you are seeing that too then it is likely an IOS issue.

What version of IOS are you guys using?

  • 11.0.3 for me. I am also getting the same issue with connecting usb midi - works for 30 secs or so and then I get a “device not supported” message. Ipad Pro 12 inch.
