Sampletank plus packs or BISMARKsoundfont player.
Which do you recommend better?

Bismarck. Its cheaper there's loads of free sound fonts out there.
Plus it takes a lot less ram than sample tank.
I'm still having problems using Sampletank into my DAW through Audiobus when I use my MIDI keyboard. No problem ever with Bismark. Never seen a pop-up ad on Bismark either. (Cranking up my IK Multimedia rant). I remember IK saying iGrand, iLectric, Vocalive, and Sampletank would all be AB usable by end of this year. Sampletank is on the AB list but they'll have to bust a move to get the others done before 2015. I guess my point is I tend to like apps that actually FUNCTION!
I enjoyed Sampletank a lot, especially with the new Sonik Synth pack, but keep in mind that it is really expensive and it takes a lot of storage space on your device (mine is 2.5 GB with the Samplemoog and Sonik Synth packs).
bs-16i is much more flexible, and has a nice MIDI implementation, but be prepared to look hard for sf2 files, most of the free ones are very generic sounding and the quality may be lower. (bs-16 also sends MIDI out, or am I wrong?).
I was listening to Dougs From TSTR and he really sold me on sonik pack and the philharmonic packs. Right now I think the only one discounted is the sonik pack and the all expansion sound packs for half price. But I wonder if it may be overkill. If anything I will probly get the philharmonic pack and Bismark. I wanna make some rock songs with violins and cellos....
But having all the samples there in sampletank its appealing too.
What @noisehorse said ... SampleTank Midi has issues that, according to IK Multimedia, will not be fixed until the next update. Not sure when that will be. So just be aware. I like SampleTank a lot, when it's working for me - YMMV.
The bs16i is very cool. Free soundfonts aren't hard to find, but be prepared to spend a little time separating wheat from chaff. Not all Soundfonts are created equal. One of my first apps and still seeing use
I already have ST plus the free pack, but I think ima go for Bismark cause I'm after symphonic strings and like you said there's a lot of free ones out there.
I'll dig out some soundfonts in my PC. I know I got a lot of them but haven't touched the PC in so long.
Bs16 for older devices especially as it's CPUs lite
