Huge drum reverb
Not iOS related directly (although I did use my tascam im2 to record the audio), but we played a wedding in Lancaster, PA tonight at the Trust Performing Arts Center. During setup, to say there was a MASSIVE drum reverb is an understatement. The incredible Frank Diorio on drums. Too bad we're not a Zeppelin tribute ...

You should collect the impulse responses for us to put into Mobile Convolution or Altispace. And we all want to know who that girl was at the end of the vid...
@noisehorse, I just re-watched it, wondering about "the girl" myself...that's Miho Nobuzane, our outstanding keyboardist, mihonobuzane.com. She is an excellent jazz pianist who specializes in Brazilian and African music, check her music out, it's excellent! She was very happy tonight to see a 9 ft yamaha grand piano onstage, which we mic'ed up so she could use it with the band (in addition to her nord and yamaha keyboards). Check out my improvised piano mic setup...it actually worked really well!
Anyway, fun wedding, sadly the last gig for a while, it's getting tough around here for bands.
You are surrounded with talent. I wonder which Piano apps she would think are best? Brazilian Jazz seems like a good way to test app quality.
ahh real reverb is the best! Nice setups, if you can't duct it...well you know...Have fun!
How does one record and prepare an impulse response?
Technique:9 Passion: 2
Sorry Frank, it's an in-joke.
No idea how to record or prepare an impulse response, sorry! Actually, I know what needs to be done to record it but haven't ever done it. It's not really of interest to me right now, too many other things going on.
As for piano apps, I know she liked igrand, but she never really got into using her iPad onstage. I tried to get her into it but she keeps her setup simple.
I vote for your band shooting a video (using as many IOS instruments as you can talk you band mates into using) and send it to Doug & Colin to put in the next episode of Doug-TV. I think exposure like that on YouTube might help you get some gigs. Just a random thought, I'm not suggesting anybody "sell out" on traditional instruments. But there might be some apps that would allow people's musicianship to still be heard. Sorry, if it was a nosy bad idea..
It's not a nosy bad idea, but not much iOS going on besides me. Unless you count lyrics, because you will not find a singer anymore without lyrics on their mic stand mounted iPad.
Actually, our drummer Gary (we have a few regular drummers, but he's the regular regular drummer) is very into iOS percussion stuff, maybe we will do a video. He's playing tubular bells and percussion on the road with Darlene Love this month. And yes, I was asked if I had some tubular bells samples that he could use! They got him real bells though.
One day I'll make Miho use the iPad again, she's not too into synths. She's much more into piano.
Here she is with Bernard Purdie:
And here's something from her album release show in NYC:
I think she'd do some wonderful things with animoog...
Come to think of it, I really do have some amazing band mates! It's easy to forget sometimes when you see them often.
