Need Sampler Advice
I have Korg Trinity Synthesizer that I use at home bit I don't want to lugg it to church. What Sampler app do you guys recommend for me to be able to sample my favorite patches and play them live on my iPad with a keyboard controller. Preferably, I would love the option to be able to select patches on the fly. Thanks in advance.

in sunday school, there was always one answer.
on iOS there's always one answer: ThumbJam
:-)
I'm not saying from experience, but I've heard you can easily build patches from samples. and ThumbJam can do everything, right?
I have Thumjam..never knew it can sample. Will look into it.
Beatmaker2 has a decent sampler with assignable zones and velocity layers. Would prob take some time to sample up your patches but is doable
I need to read up on sampling and learn cause I've never really got into it. Thanks!
+1 for ThumbJam
There's a Windows app floating around that makes creating BM2 sampler instruments quicker/easier.
You might also look into a desktop SoundFont creator. Then you can load your sound fonts into BS-16i or SoundFont Pro.
There are also desktop apps out there (not free) that will play every sound on your Korg at different octave ranges and sample them all automatically. Afterwards, you can export the lot of them to a single soundfont (or other sampler formats).
Thanks Syrupcore. I wonder what you guys think of samplewiz. Was watching YouTube videos and it looks like very doable to create patches out Of my samples as it automatically puts them across the keyboard. Now that I got my beringher UCA222 I can sample Korg Trinity via that and create patches to use live. Although I like your idea of auto sampling. But there's no time to sit on the old PC anymore.
I'd recommend either Sir Sampleton or ELSA for this (Beatmaker 2 can do all of this but it's a bit bloated for that specific purpose). I'm not sure if Thumbjam can pick up MIDI in, and frankly it's more meant to be a controller on its own rather than use with an external MIDI keyboard. Sir Sampleton and ELSA are both very quick instant-gratification type apps for laying a sample across a keyboard.
Thanks for the ideas! Checked out Thumjam and I think it's going to be my go to for the sample player. I like that it allows you to keep the preset screen open to switch patches on the fly. I have used it with my midi controller so I know it works, buy I never thought about using it this way. It's perfect cause when I'm playing live at church, I never mess with the controllers bit just pick a patch and play. I can't decide between Samplr and Samplewiz. They both have their pluses. I wish they had a holiday special on them.
We'll see. What I want is to simply sample my Trinity, save it as a playable patch and move on.
I got Sir Sampleton by the way. for .99 cents its a no brainer.
^ I think Thumbjam works really well as a general multitimbral sound module via MIDI.
I use it with a master keyboard and select patches via MIDI channel.
This works nicely if you setup your patches in advance and have easy access to MIDI channels on your keyboard.
I can't comment on Thumbjam's sampling, since I've never used it. I imagine it's well thought out though!
So when one wants to sample a synth does it matter what key you play? How about effects should I sample dry?
You may find that using a single note sample to recreate your Trinity winds up with some wired sounding notes on the outer octaves. If so, you'll need to look into creating multi sampled instruments which both ThumbJam and Beatmaker support.

This is great, though I haven't tried it. So it looks like you set up different patches to receive on their own MIDI channel and then just switch patches by selecting the correct MIDI out channel on your keyboard.

Most samplers assume you're sampling a C. If you play the sound all the way across the keyboard, I'd sample middle C. If you normally only play bass or lead with a sound, sample a C closer to that range.
Yes, sample dry (generally). Add the effects afterward. Both TJ and BM2 have basic effects and you can of course extend them with audiobus.

Yes, or you can send it midi program changes. Thumbjam is boss.
what type of sounds are you using?
I would think it MUCH easier to trigger a synth with tweaked patches, rather than programming your own sounds from scratch...and "playable" samples are going to require programming(multisampling, crossfading, etc).
These are amazing patches that are in my Korg Trinity. They are actually multipatches in the Combi mode of the synth. But I don't want to carry it round as its vintage now. But these sounds are amazing
If the patch you're sampling spread sounds awesome with the effects of the synth...is it okay to sample it that way?
Yes, it's OK. Might not sound the way you hope, depending on the sound/effect.

If only all iOS instruments had this level of MIDI support/configuration. I set it up as you described @Hmtx

I think you were being nice/optimistic, but it will probably sound like a cross-modulated reverby mess if there's too much dynamic movement involved in the effects.
This may or may not be desirable.
why not get the trinity rack, it's pretty cheap.

yeah, I thought about it, but I take my iPad to the church and hook it up with the Motif, bypass the motif, and use Z3TA, it amazed everyone at the sound quality coming out of an iPad. So for me to not have to take my Trinity out of the studio is what I want to do. Thats why I would love to sample my favorite patches. I really like Z3TA because the patch selection screen remains open when you want to change patches fast and the patches load instantly! I remember when it first came out it didnt do that at all. I emaile the developer, forgot his name, but he came over to the KVR forum and answered back. Next update, the Z3TA was updated with my request. That was truly awesome! Made a huge difference for playing live.
