"This is why I hesitated for a long time to make iPhone versions, because it seemed like the amount of work vs. demand would be a bad business decision, but after Crystalline and Caramel came out I received so many requests for iPhone versions that I finally decided to roll with it."

    @holdernessmedia THANK YOU!!!

    You're welcome! :)

  • Was going to chime in and say since our iPad died I'm an iPhone-only user, one that very thankfully just moved from a 4 to a 6+ :)

Mad props to devs who are still producing iPhone/universal music apps.

  • Thank you @HoldernessMedia ! No bullshit + innovative! well built apps = instant purchase!

  • I'll gobble up all the holderness minis almost instantly.

  • I will definitely get the iPhone bundle as soon as it drops. The possibility to run both an iPad and an iPhone instance of the FX is a plus but unfortunately only on iPad of course.

Ah , I tought I was the only one with an iPod Touch. I think we really are the minority.

@HoldernessMedia No need to apologise. I am a sole proprietor myself and I can't even afford a car. Srew all those damn multinationals. No pitty for Sony either!

I would also like to see more iPhone (iPod in my case) apps. Mitosynth is a massive synth but it works on iPhone. Animoog is also great, but the patches created on the iPhone version sound differrent on the iPad version and visa versa. I hope this will be fixed soon.
Sunrizer synth is awesome, but I don't like Sunrizer XS. It has no reverb, it's just too basic. And the patches are not compatable on iPad and visa versa.

With the holderness suite, aufx suite and most of guitar amp simulation apps working on the small screen, the iPhone/iPod is really all set to be quite the preprocessor. I use it mostly that way now and caramel and crystalline will just seal the deal. With a used iPod touch in the range of most dedicated guitar processors, this could be interesting. Still need to add a CCK, audio/midi interface (for foot control) and of course the apps but it could be pretty competitive on price and will blow lots of them out of the water on sound.

Plus, you know. Loopy and MTD at the end of the chain...

  • Thanks guys! :)

I agree that the iPhone/iPod touch is extremely useful in particular as a processor. During testing I've been using my iPhone 6 plus + apogee jam to process everything from my kalimba to the Commodore 64. It's so nice to just grab a 1/4" cable and get on with it.
AudioShare as output and its sampling heaven. IK Blueboard with an expression pedal works nicely as well. I wish Apogee would make a battery powered mini version of the GIO for iOS/Mac.

Gotta say that it annoys me that I need to re-buy some apps for iphone after I bought them on the ipad. And, considering the size of the iphone 6+, you really ought to be able to put ipad apps on it anyway. jmo.

  • @HoldernessMedia
Thanks in advance for the incoming iPhone goodies. Godspeed on growing your business further and further. Many people here, myself included, simply buy everything you make and will continue to so.

I'm sorry you're annoyed, but all I can do is offer an honest explanation of why I made my decision, hope that people see value in what I do, understand that it takes both time and funds to build things, and that small indie companies do not operate the same way as larger ones. I didn't make the decision on a whim, nor am I cackling like a madman while rolling around naked on giant piles of money, smug as can be with my ability to swindle the masses of iPad musicians out of millions of dollars.

In short, I only ask those interested to buy a cup of coffee from me a few times year, with each cup lasting at least a few years with personal support whenever you spill it, complete with free refills and new flavors every few month, and only IF you like the coffee I make and wish to see me continue making more and even better coffee going forward into the future. Plus, I like to think my coffee tastes better than that whack bullshit at Starbucks. ;)

Thank you! I hope people enjoy having the effects on iPhone.
I'm having the most fun running external gear through them at the moment, either connected via the Apogee Jam or using a mic. The kalimba sounds great through Crystalline, same for my tongue drum, and my new (old) Rhythm Ace drum machine sounds wicked through Swoopster and Crystalline, I was just messing around for fun with that combo and will upload the video in a few minutes.

This mental image will stay with me throughout Christmas. Thanks @HoldernessMedia

I should copy and paste it somewhere safe to dig it up everytime someone winges about app pricing on IOS.

I think many of us are spoilt by mac/PC piracy.

  • @supadom - I hope you got a laugh out of it, haha. :)

I'm really sorry to hear that. I am not sorry to hear that Rhythm Ace through your apps. Want them both!

Nobody forced you to value your work at the cost of coffee, so don't make your customers feel like cheap aholes, just because they don't want to pay twice in order to pour the same coffee into a smaller cup.

Nobody is forcing you to buy anything, which I tried to say nicely using a little metaphor and an attempt at humor. I'm well aware that people have mixed feelings on universal vs. separate iPhone versions, which is why I made the effort in the first place to explain my decision in an honest manner upfront so customers can make an informed decision, whereas most companies would have offered up some marketing fluff b.s. instead. Perhaps I should have said nothing at all?

Ultimately, it is up to you whether you want to support what I do or not. I try to be a decent guy and I'm sorry to lose your business, but at the same time I don't play the "king consumer" game where customers feel entitled to whatever they've decided a business should provide them, and then talk trash to boot. Life is short, peace out homey!

That Rhythm Ace was a lucky find, I love its sound and its in superb condition, I think the original owner must have bought it new back in 1979. I'm tempted to do this MIDI mod, but I'm not sure I want to mess with it since its in such great shape and it seems the FR6M model is particularly rare.

I've been on an old drum machine kick ever since I saw DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist recently on the Renegades of Rhythm tour. They brought out a super rare Vox Percussion King drum machine that sounded HUGE onstage and all the parts of the kit could be played from the front panel, that thing is sweet!

In the context of true indie developers there's really nothing to say to this but buy the guy his coffee. Spot on. The killer here (beyond the apt metaphor/humor) is I only ask those interested....

@HoldernessMedia Keep on keeping on, we'll miss you when you're dead and gone etc. (now if you could just release a Blind Bluesman effect some time in 2015 I'll get you the whole pot...).

not really.A complete rewrite of a post that people already had answered to (and not even mention the edit) says a lot about the chracter of a person. And reminds my why i should always quote questionable stuff that i answered to.Just to make sure not i look like a fool later.

  • In my opinion - and this not the first time I've said such - yes, the iPhone is short-shrifted merely by app representation. I will go on record as saying that I know almost nothing about developing apps. That being said, the evidence of this short-shifting abounds in this forum: Doug's soundtestroom videos are all on the iPad (and yes, I understand why - but it adds to the issue); a selection of what are apparently (because I'll probably never get to use them) kick-ass apps that have yet to be ported over; excuses (or not excuses?) about not implementing universality; and the back and forths I've already had on this forum about these issues.

So, we have a device that can arguably do what the big boys do, but we can't get Auria? Cubasis? Thor? Gadget? Turnado? Nave? iSymphonic Orchestra? Korg Module? And I have no reason to trust that bigger phones will make the devs start falling all over each other to port over.

It might have been better to have kept all this off the iPhones... even though I'm still floored that I can do what I do with a machine the size of a tissue pack. I think this is important, but it doesn't seem to be a sentiment that is widely shared.

And for the devs out there: I am still interested and will still pay for new apps for my iPhone. Anyone else?

  • @crabman, I agree but even if it was after the fact, it was in the end toned down. Sometimes hard to do that, particularly in public, so I'm sticking with good call. Chris handled it with grace.

  • @HoldernessMedia it seems reasonable to be compensated for the work it takes to create an app customized for a specific device. Is there any chance the iPhone apps will use the motion sensors in the phone?

Not in the initial release but I'm considering it for an update. I'm looking forward to see how people end up using the iPhone versions to determine what might make its way into future updates.

    working on it :)

  • I guess I'm spoiled as I use my iPad as a midi sound module for several people at once in an almost traditional garage band, amps and all. Since the iPad is already in use I use my iPhone with an iXY mic to capture rehearsal ideas. I also have an old 1st gen iPad that acts as a dedicated sound module for my EWI. All the synths for the EWI have to incorporate aftertouch to emulate wind instruments. I wish Sampletank had better wind instrument libraries and responded to aftertouch.
