  • Is this worth getting if I already have NTBYF?

  • Cool, I finally bought it after all these years. Now to add "look for sound fonts" to my winter gig lull to-do list.

@mrufino1 Don't know why but this Winter Gig Lull list of yours reminds me of Jack Hargreaves (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Hargreaves) and his long-running countryside show 'Out of Town' which for some odd reason as a city boy in London I used to watch with grim fascination.

In the depth of winter, with no chance of going out fishing or birdwatching, he would have a show or two where he would explain that in the fallow season a man must stay in his shed and clean his tools, tie flies, and prepare himself for the coming new year etc etc.

From now on I will think of you thusly. If you haven't a beard and a folk-singer's sweater I believe you should consider them...

Shaved my month old beard yesterday and don't own any sweaters, sorry! But, it is a good time to practice my bass, learn new apps, get better on apps I have, etc.

Also a good time to actually see some of my kids' sporting events!

January and February are usually slow on the private event front. This year though it seems it's getting more difficult. Luckily, music is not my sole source of income.

Edit: I love his picture! I need the pipe for sure!

  • Jack Hargreaves' other big gig was 'How?'
    Awesome telly.

  • @Misirlou - I think so, especially at this price. NTBYF offers a split keyboard, but the bs16i is specifically a soundfont player, and an excellent one at that.

Okay, thanks for the reply! I think I'll go get it then...

  • Bought it but haven't used it yet. Is it picky re soundfonts, eg bit depth or other variables?

  • Resisted this one for ages since I could load soundfonts into Caustic, but I finally caved, and glad that I did.

  • I like Caustic a lot but I wish there was a way to switch patches on the fly for playing live. The PCM synth is really awesome but I can't use it live since changing patches requires like a three step process.

  • @johnny goodyear .... Thanks for that reminder, what fine memories the mention of jack brings !

  • Just bought it this morning. My iPad was dead so I used phone and my axiom 49. Super fun jazzish jam. All sound from BS-16i, recorded into loopy.

  • @Paul16 Almost impossible NOT to write a tune now called Know Your Fish.... :)

  • @gmslayton Very Catskills for some reason, maybe it's just that I miss New York...

Nice. What soundfonts did you use?

  • Just the default soundfont that came with it. The bass was Slap Bass 1, I think the Jazz Drum Kit, Grand Piano, Brass 1 were all looped and then I played the violin and clarinet sounds on top.
