Sync Questions --
New Audiobus user, working with Impaktor, DM-1, Animoog and Sunrizer synth (going to Audishare) and have hit something of a wall regarding getting playback sync between these apps. I love the concept of Audiobus, but can't see the workability of the tool if I cant get the rhythmic tracks locked in together. I've trolled the forums, but not really finding an answer or clear direction. My surmise is that true sync is not really possible with the current AB ..
I'd love to hear i'm wrong .. are there any articles, discussions, or topics here where this is clarified? Thanks
Comments
U talking midi sync? Yeah it's not perfect in ios land. Some apps sync better than others. Audiobus doesn't have anything to do with syncing apps - it's just a pipeline for audio between apps. DM1 doesn't sync very well for me. What are you using to sync those apps together?
Yar, sync on iOS is a mess and it's notoriously bad with DM-1. This thread might help there: http://forum.audiob.us/discussion/1564/how-to-get-midi-sync-working-with-dm1
Thanks for the responses .. The situation is that i'm just finding my way along with this. I've dabbled in midi and digital recording for years, so once I get clued in I can usually run. SO, Audiobus is just the pipeline, and (conceptually) need something like midi for my apps to lock in together. I'd like to layer percussion rhythm from Impaktor with more standard drum kit track (DM-1). I don't mind dropping DM-1 if another similar drum app would be easier for what i'm trying to accomplish. Any additional comments appreciated!
Don't have it myself yet - but Funkbox drum machine is supposed to have good sync. And anot a drum machine - but Loopy is so great and is very solid with midi clock. If I need apps to sync I always start with that and record loops into it.
thanks Halftone, i'll check it out.
FWIW, I generally run everything from very stable hardware (Elektron Monomachine/Octatrack) and the most lag I ever see is a few milliseconds. Obviously not everyone has expensive hardware available, but if you have a stable clock source I think it matters a lot more than anything else. I've also noticed this to be the case with my Korg KP3, which has notoriously bad sync issues but is solid when receiving sync from my Elektrons.
I can't say the same when using a computer for sync, and generally don't do much serious work without hardware, so YMMV.
My advice for syncing apps is:

I like your advice and that's what I'm currently doing in my live rig. It isn't perfect though. The sugar bytes apps sync well enough when used as effect as usually the tempo 'glitch' happens at the very begining. The sync with generators like seekbeats, xynthesizr and samplr is far from rock solid. In fact I wrote an email to @Michael last night regarding loopy's sync with samplr as I really want these two to talk to each other. As a loopy character myself these 2 apps syncing would make me happy forever after.
If you want a close to perfect sync @strum27 your best bet is to use apps that support IAA. Some do it better than others but generally it works pretty good.

Yeah I am still looking for something that will solidly sync Samplr and a daw
