First Annual Apptronica Music Awards
Submissions are now being accepted for the First Annual Apptronica Music Awards, which will be held in February. The deadline for submissions is January 11th. Works must have been published in 2014, and must include significant use of iOS devices and apps in the production process to qualify. They are not required to be "pure iOS".
The categories are Best Track, Best Album, Best Remix, Best Music Video, Best Performance Video, Best Cover Song, and Best Album Artwork. There will be best track and best album awards in several genres and sub-genres depending on the number of relevant nominations. There will also be a Producer of the Year award drawn from all nominations.
You may submit as many nominations as you like, and self-nominations are allowed. Awards will be decided based on popular vote and/or committee. Questions or concerns should be directed to [email protected].
Here's a link to the nomination form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/11ws0q2qdukfU7yTkRkmq3JqUrkH5mRxTd2KELWszInI/viewform?usp=send_form

Sounds cool but you should have a pure iOS catagory.

@mkell424 Good idea. I'll think about it.
@apptronica Thanks for thinking about it. It's really interesting to see how far people can push iOS.
Soundtest Room has 3 awesome compilations of iOS tracks by some of the great artists from the iOS scene. Maybe some of them would be eligible for the Apptronica Music Awards.

@mkell424 Definitely. All of the releases we've put out have been pure IOS, with the exception of Joey Joel's album which has some live instrumentation. http://apptronica.co.uk/releases/
@mkell424 ...and not to get too self-promotional, but I personally have released 35 pure-iOS albums, if you're interested in diving into some serious limit-stretching

That's incredible! Which albums would you recommend for a first time listener @apptronica?
@apptronica Super cool. Which album is your most popular or is the most accessible?
@funjunkie27 & @mkell424 thanks! Nothing to Fear was my first major release, has the most downloads, and is fairly representative of my generally darker style. Sacred is my best selling album, and is much lighter / accessible. If you're more visually oriented, you can watch the full video for Embryo, which is a recent release:
Definitely liking the graphics.
@Apptronica love the deep, dark wet sounding intro! Creates a great sense of foreboding.
FWIW, I can understand and get behind a "made on iOS" distinction, but I would hope live instrument/vocal input into an iPad studio still counts, as long as it's processed, mixed and produced on iOS

Some good ideas for award categories would be best acoustic recording and best electronica. I think it's important to seperate them. And finally you could have best recording overall.
@eutressor absolutely. Check out Joey Joel's album released on Apptronica, which is some of the best iOS-produced music I've heard to date. It was produced with Cubasis and there are a lot of synths and effects in there, but there were also plenty of vocals, guitars, etc.

@apptronica Great experimental track. The recording is dense but at the same time crystal clear. Has an astral vibe to it.
Thanks for this post Clif. Up to half an hour ago I'd never heard of Apptronica. Very happy to discover the music of Jesper Jones. What an inspiring, ear-opening twenty minutes I've just spent. I'm looking forward to see what other gems I may discover.
Incidentally, when I typed "Apptronica" into Google the link had "This site may be hacked" written underneath and my Norton antivirus put a little grey question mark next to the link rather than a little green "Ok". Anything to be concerned about? Makes me a tad reluctant to revisit.
Nice stuff, I like the 'Sacred' album. I've never used Bandcamp, might be worth looking into sometime...
@Apptronica "I wouldn't call it waiting it's an open invitation," oh yeah, I remember checking these guys out when this was released. They nailed it top to bottom from composition through production. Proof positive there's more to iOS music making than strictly ambient/electronic instrumentals. Great stuff
Thanks, all. Yeah, @markk, the Apptronica site got hacked, and after battling it for about a week, I took it down because it was having a heavy impact on the other sites i manage. The domain now points to the label page on Bandcamp (https://apptronica.bandcamp.com/music), and I've set up a new blog at http://apptronica.tumblr.com
There are 4 more days left to submit nominations.
