Touchscreen acting funny when plugged in
Anyone seen this? I have my iPad Air plugged in, latest iOS, and it will sporadically register touches. I was using Gadget, and it would for example sometimes shift the keyboard down a scale even though I didn't come close to hitting the scale button. Or sometimes notes would register. Other times I'd hit a note and nothing would register. It's almost like there's some sort of interference going on. I rarely use the device plugged in, but I've tried it a few times recently and noticed this happening.
Any idea what it could be? I have it plugged into a small surge protection device, which is plugged into a normal extension cord. I'm not sure that's the best combo, and there are other things plugged into the extension cord: a clock radio, a lamp...
I've never heard of this before, the touchscreen bugging out like this.
Comments
I've never experienced this, but I do remember a warning in the documentation with my Android phone that the touchscreen may behave erratically when it's charging from the mains, so I guess it's possible.
Does it only happen when your iPad is plugged in?
Is it an official charger and cable ?
Have you tried it straight from the socket ?
I did a search and found a few others experiencing this. It appears to be a grounding issue, resolved by touching the case of the iPad. I think the extension cord, etc. are the source of the issue, because when charging on my laptop it doesn't happen.
Yep - I have experienced this as well on a mini Retina (2) - all official Apple gear for cables and chargers.
I have only had this with fake Chinese Apple chargers...the official ones have been fine.
Me too on iphone5s and ipads with lightning...
Thought thats only with third party cables, but not sure...
Tap on the creen jumps to another point of hit, scrolling randomly...
Have you had your screen replaced? When I was recently researching a similar issue I came across a thread on ifixit that talked about some digitizers not being properly insulated on some cheap replacement screens. I can dig the link up where they talk about the solution if you've had it replaced.
