Tonestack Audiobus Issue

First, i tried using Tonestack in the input slot of AB and speaker on the output slot...no sound.
As soon as i close AB and relaunch tonestack, i can then hear my guitar sound.

Second, Weird thing is that without placing the noise x pedal, i would hear this weird background noise. Almost sounded like weird houling noise, hard to explain, the noise is very low level though. It sounds like very low level interference. If I turn off all the individual pedals, the noise goes down a lot, but comes back as I enable each pedal.
It did go away after putting the noise x pedal. So these are my 2main issues with Tonestack. Anyone have any ideas?
By the way, I don't hear this low level noise when using Jamup, although, that app also has its own different noise. I was using my Beringher UCA222.

  • Hmm, not sure, I can't get JamUp to work with audiobus or IAA at the moment, haven't been able to for a long time actually.

I get all kinds of noise from Tonestack when I use a lot of distortion in the amp or pedal. Even with the noise gate pedal. I can't seem to get rid of it. Never had the problem in JamUp or Ampkit.......

  • Weird thing is, I just checked out a loop I recorded I the tapedeck section of tonestack and I sounds amazing! The noise that it was making while I played is not there at all!
Makes me wonder if the MIC input is somehow enabled while you have a USB interface hooked up. Even tho it clearly says USB in at the bot to left of tonestack. Could this be the culprit for that interference noise? I'll try to post a soundbyte.

  • When using Fx in Audiobus, I always hear background noise. When using other guitar apps, I don't.

  • Tonestack is without question the noisiest guitar app. I too wonder whether the internal mic is always on.

  • Just emailed them the problems we are having. They are normally quite good at responses.

What interface are you using? Also, I seem to remember a setting on tonestack that needed to be changed while in IAA, something about monitoring, that made a difference.
Try playing with these two settings while in audiobus, see if they have any effect on the issue (I'm on my phone, not with an interface plugged in, so the settings may not be correct and I can't try it right now)

It's possible that the inputs are set (maybe by audiobus) to have a mic on depending on your interface.

  • I tried this, as well as different setting in the privacy settings on the iPad. Still no joy. When you turn off mic in the setting in Privacy. Tonestack keeps nagging that the mic is off. Even in Audio Bus or directly in Cubasis. All the same problem. Even done a reinstall of the app. Still getting loud hum, & FX sound is quite bad. :-(

The mic privacy setting has nothing to do with this- that is the setting that allows an app to access core audio. Very confusing in the labeling for that setting!

What interfaces are people using when they get the noise? I get all sorts of noise, ground loops, etc, with my apogee one in my house while plugged in and on headphones, much less on batteries, none when I'm not in my house in most settings. I know my house power is not very clean.

With that being said, if you're talking about high gain settings being noisy, I have noticed that too. But I haven't noticed extra external noise in high gain settings than in low gain settings, just noise that would be like using a noisy high gain tube amp or other high gain equipment and noisy pickups.

  • I use the iriffport. I don't notice problems with Ampkit, JamUp or Bias, at all as far as noise.(connecting through audiobus and IAA is another story).

With Tonestack, I don't hear a hum, that I can remember. ToneStack is only usable for me if I use settings, amps, effects without a lot of distortion. You know like light Rock presets, Chorus, Trem, flanger, and so on.

As soon as I add a high gain amp, crank the distortion on a pedal or an amp, with an added noise gate, I get, the best way I think to describe it is Feedback. But it's unbearable. Loud Screeching, ear piercing. If I strike a chord and let it ring out, it's usually ok. Then as soon as the note stops ringing, it is god aweful noise.

Makes it tough to play any kind of Metal, and Hard Rock. I have some pretty meaty presets in JamUp and Bias. I never get any kind of screeching loud noise when I use the provided noise gates.

  • I know this sound funny, but just used Funkbox(also other synths, ect) into audio bus alone(no guitar amps......)into Tonestack.... just two app together..... Same hum noises. Then tried again, into cubasis. Then no audio bus, just IAA....... Noise...... There's a bug in Tonestack.

  • I really think it's probably a settings issues or something simple. Cause I realized that the weird interference noise doesn't get recorded. I'll post a 20 second demo clip later on.
The noise Is only audible while tracking, and listening thru headphones but again, doesn't get recorded. It could be my interface, beringher UCA 222, but I doubt it, cause then I would be getting the exact same weird howling (though faint) noise with Jamup. With Jamup I only get the grounding type of noise though. I'll do some more testing with my zoom G3 USB interface. That's the one I used with Jamup. I'll hook up the UCA222 to Jamup and check.
I don't want to say it's Tonesstack cause this app is truly an awesome app and a grew deal. I figure, for less than what I paid for a decent guitar cable, I got the whole mother ship of effects with tonestack.
Issue with audiobus and Auria, could be a setting in Auria that I probly need to change. Is there a guide on how to setup Auria while using Audiobus?

  • Here is a 20 second clip recorded into the Tonestack built in studio then transferred to Auria. THere is no noticeable noise at all. But the tone is really warm. That is what I really like about Tonestack. I'll do some more testing this weekend.

  • Is it possible you have the mic on the iPad set as an input in auria for some reason? Maybe audiobus automatically created 2 tracks? I've had that happen before.

  • Question: Will Tonestack output its audio tracks as stereo no matter what?

Will check mic settings in Auria. Thanks!

  • I think any audiobus is stereo by default- in auria you can make it mono by exporting that track soloed in mono and re importing it or having it create a new track. You can also convert stereo to mono in audioshare.

  • Guys, i finished some more testing and guess what? The houling is gone! I think it must have been some kind of bad setting on my end. I also used my Zoom G3 as the USB interface. All worked so beautiful. ToneStack is so incredibly awesome guys! What a deal and how sweet it truly sounds. I totally found my tone in it. I disabled the mic and speaker settings in Auria. Also, disabled Audiobus Live Monitoring. THis worked big time! I was able to record Tonestack, with RDM, and my electric. I made a small clip so you guys can hear how clear and crisp ToneStack sounds. I couldn't be any happier with this guitar app guys! totally recommend it big time!

  • I tried again after reboot & now it works. I did notice that in the bottom left, that the input & output said Audiobus on both. Just a crap guess, but maybe a tiny bug?...... Maybe?.... When it did work, the amps, FX sound sounded Terrific.
