Video..Rebirth by Propellerhead, The EPIC Guide for iPad

Few pieces of software have stood the test of time like Rebirth in the fact that it has remained practically unchanged since it was released in 1997, and it emulates 3 pieces of hardware that had a huge influence on electronic dance music starting in the 1980’s. The Roland TB303 bass synth and the Roland TR808 and TR909 drum machines.
Today long after production stopped on those classic pieces of hardware they still remain sought after in a massive way, even Roland have sort of reinvented them with AIRA series.
What makes Rebirth brilliant is the fact it never compromised, it simulates the hardware almost exactly, there are no programming short cuts, you have to program it just like you did with the gear, it can be a painstaking process but that makes the results all the more worthwhile, you know you have had to work at producing your track, and the results can be nothing short of spectacular and magical.

And a very Happy New Year to all of you.

  • This I'm looking forward to. Got the app for a song (ha!) some time ago, opened it, went blank in the head, and quickly ported it into the 'Not Yet' folder. Maybe now's the time...

  • It's worth the effort

  • Thanks Doug, also looking forward to this as I purchased it recently and I always learn a few tricks from your videos. Happy new year, and thanks for your hard work over the last year - it's really appreciated.

  • I should mention just how easy it is to download hundreds and hundreds of mixes uploaded for remixing. I use them for the drums only but with simple manipulation, thousands of new grooves are available very easily and that sound very good for the most part. I just mute the bass and add my own with the remixed drums most usually.

  • This was my very first softsynth back in 1997 and I'm glad I'm still using it on the iPad.
Thanks for the video, Doug! Great as always!

And happy new year everyone! :)

Thanks Doug! Funny to go out of 2014 doing a guide to an app from 2012 that is a port of desktop software from 1997 which was an emulation of hardware from ~1983. :)

This is a good reminder to me that I already have a couple of great drum machines (in addition to the other 20...).

Excellent, thanks for the tip. I bought it but hardly used it cause of the miniscule controls!

  • And happy new year to you Doug, thanks for all the great videos!

  • A belated Happy New Year to you, Doug, and an early Happy New Year to Colin. Congrats to you both on the launch of TheSoundTestRoom.com this year :)
