  • My favourite all-time album is perhaps "Entroducing..." by DJ Shadow - it's pretty much perfect... It wasn't until shortly after it's release I read an interview with Shadow and he said the album was 100% made with samples (from old records) and an MPC - nothing else, no other instruments used! If someone can make a full album as great as that with just samples - there's no argument left as to whether or not sampling is art. Case closed.

@kobamoto: Rick James sued MC Hammer for copyright infringement so I guess Hammer didn't clear the sample beforehand.

oh really …. then I retract that part damn I thought the suit was a myth but it seems you are correct good sir and I am mistaken…. how the hell did he think he was going to get away with that?

  • @synthandson, I can feel your appreciation of sampling from your post, I feel the same way. it's one of the few experiences I'm immersed in that I can be entertained, educated, and indulge in the craft of it all at the same time, often you can start a session and just wonder where the day went :)

  • speaking of sampling and hiphop, this is for france and one of my favorite samplers the turntable :)

    Good post @synthandson

    What JG said.

I was going to explain why pointing out MC hammer was valid but then you did it yourself about 100 times better than I could have.

Also, +1 at "See: Entroducing. Q.E.D."

  • +1 for DJ Shadow.
