Microtonal Piano Roll
Hey,
Can anyone recommend a software (iOS or OS X) where i can use a microtonal (custom made) piano roll. F.e. i want to split an octave in 13, 17 or more equal steps. I know some synths and so can do it but i need a piano roll for it too. Maybe Reaper? Or is this not possible. Anyone used this yet?
Thank's!

in OSX you can use Scala's Relayer function (monophonic, polyphonic only for instruments with MIDI channel swap).
in iOS I tried to build something like this in Lemur, but it's far from being finished yet. But there is also ScaleGen (an app) where you can create any microtonal scale (and also import .scl files). Still there is the same limitation as in a desktop DAW: microtonal manipulation often has to be done with Pitch Bend, and therefore is monophonic, and polyphonic only limited, depending on the synth.
Thank you! Scale Gen looks interesting. Do you know if it also could export/create scl files
How about Worldscales app? It allows for microtonal adjustments in cents. Doug does a good video demo of it:

Thank you but ThumbJam still can do all that. It can create any kind of scale and temperament but only with 1-12 pitches per octave. Indeed i again see what a brilliant and amazing app ThumbJam is. I would pay 99€ for it in the MacAppStore....(@Sonosaurus)...But i want to use more than 12 pitches within an octave. Seems Scale Gen can get up to 24. I experimented with some of those scales and tunings and it's a refreshing "mystic sound". I still use most the time the western scales but i begin to think more and more outside boxes. And i also want to create sone own scales for some special instruments.
Yes, ScaleGen can create and export scala files. It also has midi out and can be played, but it probably needs something that can read what it's sending out. ScaleGen export to Thumbjam is great as is to Gestrument too.
Thank you!
Seems Scala works just with a developer account and is a hell to install?! To complicated for me
ScaleGen seems to be worth a buy since i saw who was involved into it and it looks really great. Still amazing that there is so much missing in the big DAW world in terms of scaling and tuning. Seems i have to buy finally an iconnectmidi 2+ to get iOS and OS X together because all this midi over bluetooth is not working and i want to use these apps as midi controller.
Sometimes i wish i still had only an iPhone 4 where i made 1-2 tracks a week instead of trying to put things together. Ha ha.... too late... i licked all the blood!
Check out the new Wilsonic app if you want to play outside the 12 tone scale -

Reaper can apparently have a bespoke "piano" roll in the midi editor.

But quite honestly 12 tones is enough scope for discord for me.
Thank's again! That looks good too and it seems it can export scl files which a lot synths and instruments support. Seems i have a found a refreshed love for iOS. Nothing usable for OS X in this direction.
On OSX check out microtonal software at H-Pi.com
Thank you! The Custom Scale Editor looks good!
Bitwig has microtonal editing in their piano roll, but only for notes from the DAW's own onboard instruments. Their deal is a per note expression mod system, which can do microtones and a pile of other things but only inside their own ecosystem so far. Supposedly their modulation system will expand to include plugins later...
Can someone explain to me what are the differences between composing a track out of (432hz) tuned instruments or converting it afterwards?
I explain: I can play a guitar in 432hz to go along the other stuff. But if and when I recording anything non instrumental I will only be able to do it at standard, fixed frequencies. (?)
Wilsonic is great! Thanks for the tip.
one more in OSX Melodyne studio. It has a piano roll editor with mircotonal scales and scala import.I think limited to 12 tones.
