Recording, IAA and Audiobus/Majorseriouslyous issues......
I'm trying to keep a good attitude about it. It all started on my ipod touch, latest generation, ios 7.latest. But, the problems have followed me to my ipad air 1 ios 7.latest as well.
I had thought, that it was strictly a JamUp issue, or maybe Multitrack DAW. Being a guitar player, I use(d) it more than 90% of the time time to record with into Multitrack DAW. Now into Auria on the pad.
It is quite possible that I am just doing something just plain wrong? What gets me is, up until an ios update or two ago, I had no issues whatsoever when recording with Audiobus, and the rare occasion I used IAA.
The problem(s)/issues: It doesn't matter which app, or DAW I have tired, (of course I have not tried every possibility out there), I cannot get any audio while recording into a DAW. Sometimes, maybe all the time? The audio will actually get recorded onto the track, but it's not really helpful, because I can't hear the guitar or keys, or drums as I am playing them through audiobus. Or IAA.
Last night, I tried adding Some Thumbjam, DrumJam, Alchemy to so Spanish teaching songs my wife is going to use in her class, and I couldn't hear any of it while recording. The drum beats were there after I listened to the track after recording.
If I get a chance I will take some pics of how I am setting things up. Basically, without having my ipad in front of me:
Start audiobus, JamUp, DrumJam, Alchemy, and so on in the input slot of audiobus, launch it. Auria or Multitrack in the output slot in Audiobus, launch it. Arm the track, and click record and it starts rolling, I can't hear a thing. But, after recording, the audio's there. I forget exactly what happens if I try to do this via IAA, but it doesn't work either.
Is this enough information? What the Heckavalouva am I doing wrong?

It sounds more like a monitoring problem than a recording problem.
In Auria you can use the Output Matrix to send audio to your headphones, and there is also a preference I think for monitoring Audiobus while recording.
k, thanks for the reply. I will check this when I get home. I hope it's something as easy as that to fix. Maybe that is the issue in multitrack DAW as well.
I use MultiTrack DAW with guitar apps and AudioBus all the time (iPad 2, iOS 7.1.2 and iOS 8.1.2 the past few weeks) without issues like you describe. It seems like it could be your interface. What kind are you using?
the iriffport. I can get sound with the iriffport with just jamming, not recording at all. I don't use any interface when using Thumbjam or DrumJam or Alchemy or so on. The only thing I've used with my Scarlett 2i4 has been a microphone to record some vocals, mine my kids and last week my wifes, and recorded our piano into Auria as well. That was able to be recorded with no issues. Able to hear the piano we recorded, and monitor vocals as well while recording those.
I just tested DrumJam in the input with AmpKit in the effects slot recording into MTDAW without issue. I couldn't load JamUp in the effect slot, but I did open it in the input slot. I was able to monitor while recording. Did you check settings>AudioBus>microphone? It should be enabled, which I think is the color green. If it's not that, it seems like the iRiffport might be the culprit.
@High5denied - just curious if you got things sorted out.
Hey @supanorton,
I appreciate the inquiry. I changed one thing, I upgraded to ios 8. Not sure if that was a good idea or not, but I figured I wasn't getting anywhere where I was at.
I tried it a couple nights ago. JamUp in the input slot of audiobus, Multitrack and Auria in the output slot of audiobus. JamUp as an IAA on both. As soon as I load JamUp into audiobus or IAA, the sound stops. Now nothing is even recorded. I didn't get a chance yet to check any other apps out. I think for the moment, I will just record into the JamUp 8-track and copy and paste it into Auria. I used to do that a lot with just my ipod, and I didn't mind it too much.
Sooo....
I have concluded that God does not want me to be able to record my guitar into Multitrack DAW, or Auria. There really is no other explanation. Tried again tonight. No matter the order I started the apps, or audiobus. Nothing. I was getting sound playing through JamUp, in the input slot of audiobus. with the speaker as the output. Add one of the above DAW's, and poof. My sound goes bye bye.
With IAA, No sound as well, Auria is a bit more of a chore for me to figure out why, I don't know if I completely understand the input matrix. But, once I load JamUp into the IAA into Multitrack, not only does the sound stop, I can't even arm the track. It says loading audio or something, and then doesn't arm the track.
So, I was able to use audiobus JamUp input slot into Master Record output slot. Perfectly fine. I don't know if MR has a metronome, or a dedicated volume control for a recorded track. Couldn't find either.
Also able to record via the same into Loopy HD. Which, Has a metronome, and, an awesome one at that. With visual flashy stuff. . Plus, I guess I hadn't really used Loopy much to try and record a whole song, or at least the guitar tracks.(Mostly just messed around with laying down Techno loops, and some acoustic guitar. It's really a breeze, then I can copy them into Auria.
So, I have come to the realization, that Auria and MT DAW are avoiding me. And don't wish for me to record into them. For what ever reason.
I have the same problem as @High5denied using Jamup Pro in Input Slot of Audiobus into Cubasis. I can hear audio fine with Loudspeaker as Output but as soon as I put Cubasis or MTDAW in output slot the Audio is muted.
In Cubasis the Jamup Pro Track does not show a Yellow speaker/monitor icon like it does when I use Tonestack in the Input slot of Audiobus. Positive Grid know about this issue but don't seem to be too interested in getting it fixed very quickly!
Jamup Pro into Cubasis as IAA does seem to work most of the time for me though.
Just tried Guitarism in to Cubasis via Audiobus - works fine.
Added Jamup Pro in FX slot in Audiobus, can now see Monitor icon in Cubasis but still no sound and looks like Guitarism crashed (no string movement when strumming!)
@AlterEgo_UK,
I don't know what to think. I thought it was a JamUp only problem, maybe an ios7 problem, cuz I updated all my apps, but not my ipad or ipod touch to ios 8.
I can get JamUp perfectly into Master record and Loopy.
Positive grid, man ...... They have other new things they are working on. A hardware thing, that is not the BT-4 pedal they talked about a year ago, and a full on effects rack app, looked a little like Tornado to me.
But, I have heard Final Touch isn't working well for some, I don't know if it's a JamUp problem or not, but feel it should be looked into more.
O well. Life goes on.
