Backing Up iPad Apps
Hey friends, I need advice on how to do a backup of all my music apps using iFunbox classic. I can't use iTunes cause I have an old PC and can't upgrade. I am able to use iFunbox tho. A simple noob steps would be appreciated. What files are needed to have a successful backup. Or do a complete backup instead?
Thanks in advance:)
Hopefully this will help others that might be in the same boat.

You don't really need to backup apps so much as their settings, prefs, data. Apps can always be re-downloaded from the app store. I can't give you any advice though on what to backup with iFunbox as I've never used it.
It depends on the app but there's a /Documents folder that generally has your data and /Library/Preferences folder that usually has your preferences in the form of a plist file that will look like com.appname.plist like com.xynthesizr.plist or com.waldorfmusic.nave.plist
Sometimes though, your data gets saved in places other than /Documents. Xynthesizer, for example, saves user sequences and synth patches to /Library/Application Support/Xynthesizer. And sometimes some of your settings are actually in /Documents. Sunrizer for instance has global settings in /Library/Preferences/...plist file but midi mapping in the /Documents folder.
The only instance where backing up the app makes sense is if you feel you might want to revert to an earlier rev after upgrading. I'm too lazy to do it myself though and have been pretty lucky so far. Probably just a matter of time. Still, I would only consider it for the apps that are the most important to me.
Or if you accidentally upgraded your apps. I went into AppStore a few weeks ago just to try to update one app. Some how the "update all" button got pressed and 5 or 8 apps got updated while I wasn't looking. Aargh. I lost Anytune Pro's YouTube download feature. I wish I had a ifunbox backup :-/
@Hmtx Take a look at Beat Time! by Guy Shaviv. Shhh.

So basically you don't need to do any backups at all?...not only for apps I mean...
Every time I plug in (PC) my ipad, it asks to do a backup, worried it wasn't done for a few weeks now....
Do you take it seriously or don't bother?
cheers
You can use use iCloud to backup your iPad. I've had three iPads over the years that have never been connected to a PC. Everything is done in the cloud.

I was thinking what if you just want to restore a single app instead of the whole OS? I think I loud is ok for that but I'll do ifunbox instead for so gle app backup , restore.
