ios oddities

i'm looking for recs for the oddball apps out there, not so much emulations of synths or drum machines (i use a few of those too but...). elastic drums has me really excited, TOPLAP is fun, iGendyn and RISCy are great for building samples out of. audiobus/iaa not necessary but always a plus. what are the esoteric apps you're using?

  • and how could i forget Tapeit

  • Have to say I have a fondness for experimental and leftfield ios apps, gone through a few folders and come up with a list, I'm an app fiend though so be careful, as the rabbit hole is deep, warm and inviting, check out some of the more expensive ones on youtube first, as apps like tnr, tnr-e and aurora are very similar.

  • I think we are spoiled for choice when it comes to iOS oddities. :)
These are both highly valued examples for me.

    BitWiz Audio Synth

    Werkbench
    https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/werkbench/id522262614?mt=8

  • Out of the seven apps mentioned in this thread, only one of them is in the Australian app store: NodeBeat.

  • Oops, only saw first two posts.

  • Thanks for the great list rz.

  • Not sure if it is available there or not but Werkbench can be almost anything.

  • Attractor can generate evolving drones.

  • Animoog's randomizer always produces oddities or silence :)

Both of which can be tweaked for more odd-ness

  • ... also MobMuPlat has some great, free, sometimes wonky modules. I especially like the ones made by Otem Rellik: http://www.otemrellik.com/

  • guess I know what I'm watching on YouTube this weekend. can't check any atm (stupid work) but I'm def appreciative of all suggestions.

  • the strange agency stuff is good, I also heard they were done and that makes me a little sad

  • I still like Mitosynth the most for this kind of sounds because i'm not sure if there is another software out there where i can melt 32 sound sources (which can be my own) in one patch and can morph, manipulate and modulate them with infinite LFO's (dials in Mitosynth) and a few other unique things which are hard to find (even in most of my desktop plug ins). There are synths with better filters and FX and so but that's not always the most important thing.

  • im having trouble getting 24 bit wav from Dropbox into mito.

    Anyone have luck with that?

  • edited January 2015

Holy holy but that's a nice little list. I've been happy with stro:m but am even more so to see family members I didn't know of in one webhole. Well done Professor.

  • those apesoft apps sound really interesting but the videos i watched did not clarify what was going on with them at all (it might just be that i'm thick)

  • @markk - anytime, looking back though, maybe should of left off some of the more obvious apps as a few just aren't odd enough

@french custard - check out SYnC SYnTHE, dev has a few other odd apps up too, maybe Noisemusick is also worth a look.

  • @mister_rz grabbed SYnC SYnTHE and FourierAir (both from KonakaLab), already able to use FourierAir to make some background drones for an upcoming performance. still slowly working my way through your initial list

all these suggestions are great, really appreciate the time everyone's taken to answer my dumb question.

  • Samvada as Audiobus-FX or instrument. Lots of scales and tunings.
    And its free.

  • Great thread. @Coloobar Thanks for the suggestion on Poly.

This looks like a great tool... Im excited about getting into it.

  • Hmmm. Poly does look interesting...

  • I tried MixTikl for a bit (I know you asked me to say how I got on, Johnny) and it just looks HUGE in terms of possibilities but at the same time I just found it pretty impenetrable.

But Poly looks like a nice way to add a bit of generative stuff to a track in a controlled and easy to set up way.

I have a plan... MIDI Out of various parts into Gadget for further editing.

My current issue is that MIdi appears to stop being broadcast from poly if you put the app in the background, which is a little annoying. But I've written to the dev about it.

Another awesome possibility is multi channel midi from Poly into multiple instruments/tracks in NanoStudio.

  • plugging my own leftfield apps : Strange Attractor and Voco
