Video..Auria, The Oxygen Variations, JM Jarre Tribute, Lets Listen

Jean Michel Jarre is one of my favorite artists and has been a big influence on me from a very early age. I remember first hearing Oxygen and was blown away. No one quite sounds like him.
Using Auria I constructed this over the course of a couple of days from ideas I’ve had knocking around in my head for ages. It took more time than I originally thought not because it was difficult to play but because of trying to find the right sounds to use, that was hard. The Korg Microstation was invaluable to this project as was the Arturia CS80V.
Personally I am very happy with the end result as it sits in Auria, as yet I have not yet mastered the track.
I hope you enjoy listening to this as much as I enjoyed recording it. And although the music is original it borrows style and influence from JM Jarre, so its strange to think that with him this would never had existed.

  • I realize I risk being set on fire by our friendly neighbourhood synth enthusiasts for admitting this, but I know nothing about JM Jarre (but I used to be able to play every song on "2112," metalhead guitarist and all that). Oddly, as I listened, I was reminded of Giorgio Moroder, who I guess was a contemporary? I hope that's a compliment, it's surely intended as such. Love the theme to Midnight Run and enjoyed your track mightily :)

  • Ah....Midnight Run....the movie that should have propelled Charles Grodin to being, well, more than Charles Grodin.

  • Ach! Got me there JG. Meant "Midnight Express."

Although Midnight Run was a fine film, despite the lack of a synth-driven theme song. Love Dennis Farina's (RIP) streak of bad sweaters :)

  • Blew the dust off the vinyl and gave it a spin. Thanks for posting these GEMS. Fantastic.

  • Great homage to a classic synth album. What struck me was that you can basically recreate the sound which he would have used tens of thousands of pounds worth of kit on - way beyond the dreams of mortal men - with software that cost cost a fraction of the original hardware. Oh, and I think that the Cs80 was later than Oxygene...

  • Yeah your right the CS80 came out in 1976, but it does a nice job of getting that old analog feel

  • Yes, of all the synths that I'd like to see an IOS emulation of, the CS80 is top of my list, and I think it would be great for a touch interface, it could be so expressive (are you listening Arturia?!).

  • I think the CS80V is doable on iOS, I think eventually we may see them all ported, I think I will do the Jupiter 8 next, I only use the demo versions, which are great really, can't save and it times out after 20 minutes, but other than that they work great..forever
