Deleting junk files dangerous?

I read a couple of times that"cleaning"the device with system tool apps can wipe personal data like presets in iProphet or Animoog.Unfortunately I saw yesterday on itunes that the yellow junk is already at least 1 GB big again. And that's on a 2 months old device -.- I use the ram cleaning thing from time to time but i never deleted"junk"files with a system tool.Would love to see more impressions/experiences on this topic, thanks

  • After my experience with an iPod touch 5g, I must say that 1GB of yellow bar is somewhat normal, even a week after a restore. On that device I use Battery Doctor, the orange one, but I take care to disconnect the device from wifi. Never had any problems. And that device also holds 22000 songs.

  • What do you mean by 'yellow junk' does iTunes have a junk meter?

More or less.if you connect to itunes you can see a long"memory bar"at the bottom with the description how much memory is used etc (green:free memory for example). And yellow just says"other"and is (wasted) space that will get bigger and bigger after a while.

  • Ah ok, i never paid attention to it. Will have a look when home. I had to restore all thanks to one of those amazing cleaning apps :l

  • The confusing thing about the junk cleaning is that some apps are affected and some not at all.

In my recent experience, Animoog deleted all IAP timbres but NOT user presets. While iProphet deleted all user presets. iProphet data size was only about 12MB. On the other hand, Nave (40MB) and Mitosynth (110MB) we're not affected at all by the 'cleaning' app.

Ok,THAT was exactly the answer i was looking for.Or probably not, matter of perspective lol.

  • My take on it is: Instead of using these apps which in one way or another have a potential to de-stabilise your iPad just wipe it out and reinstall from Ifunbox backup once every so often or whenever you feel the machine is slowing down. I did exactly that recently but to be honest I haven't noticed any improvements in performance. IOS7 is as stable as it used to be using all of my music apps. If I can snatch another Air One Seven off ebay I'll be a happy chappy for at least another year.

@supadom Not in competition with you here, happy to truck on with 8 (but then I have no live considerations etc), but are you finding Air 7s hard to come by?

  • They're not rare. The problem is that when I find them reasonably priced on ebay, by the time the seller gets back to me with the answer about the IOS he'll have sold the batch. This morning there were air 1s 32GB for £260. The seller got back to me straight away with: chances are there is one. Which is a pretty dumb answer if you asked me. They're out there. I think the grey imports from Asia are more likely to have it. Don't know man. A lot of luck, guesswork and trial and error. I think my next move's gonna be to buy them sealed at bargain prices and then resell if unlucky. I did it last week and resold it locally for the same money. It's just seems like a lot of effort. @funjunkie27 had some luck on ebay US it seems.

@supadom "Grey Imports from Asia..." what would your old mum say..... I have visions of you at the docks (trenchcoat of course) or little-used country airfields, full of furtivity and blocks of used cash. There's at least a blog in, maybe a book: The Dark Market....

    Alright, just a blog :)

  • I'm growing the beard for the part.

  • Informative thread complete with some laughs. Thank you all.

  • I think you got me confused with someone else @supadom. I've bought a few things on eBay, but never sold anything.

  • Didn't you say that your wife bought Ipad air with ios7 on eBay?

  • Not me....my wife is terrified of tech!

  • Ok, sorry maybe it was some other fundude with a tech-lovin' other half ;)

  • Ah, got it. It was @Tritonman2 apologies

  • No worries...he seems like a fundude, so I can understand the confusion ;-)
