Graphite 49 experts ...
Calling on Graphite 49 expert advice. I just got a Graphite 49 and have been studying the manual ... which is poor in my opinion ... trying to figure out how to set MIDI channels to play certain synth apps.
A couple of weeks ago I posted that I have been trying to set up a live ipad synth setup using Audiobus, MiMiX and several synth apps from which I can choose and was advised that the best way to do this would be to assign each synth to a different MIDI channel. And then use the MIDI controller to play individual synth apps by setting the proper channel on the Graphite 49 controller.
I think I have it figured out, but I would like some advice or assurance from the experts here to make sure I'm doing it right.
At first I tried to edit some presets that would transmit on specific MIDI channels. That was frustrating and I couldn't figure out the way to set the transmitting MIDI channel for a preset. I only see how to set the MIDI channel for the individual sliders and encoders
So, after studying the manual a little more, I decided presets may not be the way, but I'm not really sure. In Performance mode I can edit the MIDI transmitting channel and that did work to play individual synth apps.
So, is that the way I should be doing it? ... In performance mode ... and not create individual presets?
I hope this makes sense. Thanks for any advice.

Select a Patch, then press "Preset", then go over to the data buttons under the LCD and hit > IIRC three times, the parameter name at the top will change to "Ch". Then you can use the data +/- to set what you want, then the Save button to fix it. Won't be home till later but I could to a little video (I think). THe Channel number is shown in the second row. By default it is -- meaning it inherits the main channel number (as set by the channel buttons in the left cluster, which for some reason only take you from 1 to 10). Which of course you could also use instead of patch changing, if all the synths can use the same controller mappings.
That's generally how I do it. Performance mode Page> a few times and then adjust the CH param.
I think if you want to save it for the keyboard itself, you need to save it to Zone 1 (which, by default, covers the entire keyboard). Page 20 in the manual.
Annoying: it seems to always send a program change when you switch the channel in performance mode (because you have to hit enter for it to take).
sometimes annoying, sometimes not. Really needs a "Jam" mode as well as "Performance". In the latter, the MIDI way is to send the patch change since the idea is each patch is for a song part, not a synth.
Also sometimes not because not all our synths recognize the change, and that can also be annoying.
Oh, I love that I can send a program change with it, for sure. I just want to be able to change the channel without it happening (unless I want it to).
Thanks for the input. This is a steep learning curve for a tech dummy like me.
Here's another unrelated question about the graphite49 ... How the eff is the sustain pedal supposed to work? I have a Yamaha FC4 and and a foot switch type pedal, and when I plug either one into the sustain pedal jack, it works opposite of the way it should i.e. sustain is always on until I press the pedal, then it damps until I release the pedal and sustain is back on. Is there a setting buried in the graphite49 somewhere for this?
Well, that was strange. I turned every thing off and back on and now the sustain pedal is working properly.
Sounds like an Alesis drum head I have. The hh switch will accommodate a normally open or closed pedal, but you have to power cycle it for it to recognize what is being used.

That's actually pretty standard at this point. There was never a polarity standard for those things so most decent instruments can use either polarity these days but require you to turn it on with the switch plugged in. Guess it pings it as a part of the boot process.

That's it. And the manual does say to plug in the sustain pedal before turning the keyboard on. So, my mistake.
I never have these kinds of problems with my Fender Rhodes or Hohner Clavinet. Ha!ha!
I think I finally have my iPad synthesizer stack set up now for live playing.
Thank you all for the helpful tips and advice getting the MIDI channels set up so the Graphite 49 will only play one app at at time now. This forum has been great.
Using Audiobus and MiMiX I lined up four different synth apps each set to a different MIDI channel and Korg Module. And I edit the MIDI channel on the Graphite 49 to play each one by it self.
Please correct me if I am wrong ... There is no way to set a MIDI channel on Korg Module that I can find. Is that right? Module seems to sound from any MIDI channel so I put it in slot one on MiMiX will just mute it on MiMiX when I want to play one of the other apps. And hit the MiMiX solo button on the Module channel in MiMiX when I only want Module to sound.
So this is a better way for me to do this rather than having all the apps play from MIDI channel 1 and using the MiMiX solo button to isolate each.
Congrats on getting it together. Did you go with the edit method Dave and I use or dig into zones?
I don't own Module but Korg has traditionally been channel greedy with their apps on iOS so it sounds extremely likely. MIDIBridge and MIDI Flow can help with that. Indeed, sorry I didn't think to mention them sooner. They both support MIDI configuration presets that you can quickly recall. MIDIBridge supports calling them via MIDI; MIDI Flow might too but I'm not positive. Five presets for your 5 synths and Bob's yer uncle.
Thanks. I did look at MIDIbridge in the App Store but decided not to get it at this point.
I have not explored zones on the Graphite 49 yet. I edit the MIDI channel in Performance mode as you suggested, syrupcore.
Could you (or someone else) give a little more info about the Graphite 49 sending a program change when you edit the MIDI channel and hit enter in performance mode? I don't see any of the apps I was using changing programs when I do that.

Few iOS Synths seem to recognize Program Change, which might be why you are not bothered. If you do hit one, again MidiBridge or MidiFlow can help filtering them out.
