iKaossilator to Ableton

This is hilarious and cool. Anyone else try this on for size?

  • @Littlewoodg Do spill the beans as regards the way your boat is being floated etc.

iKaossilator is an app I underestimated I guess, in that I took it for a toy- but now I find myself on my 5s, sitting on the crapper or wherever, laying out an Ableton project. The iKaossilator sample import opens the app to WAVs on my device, so a fresh clip from MiniMapper or whatever else can mix w/Korgs own sweet inapp clips and loops, ridiculously freely and quickly, then on into fullon Ableton clip launch and tweak heaven, goofy tropes laid down in some waiting room rubbing shoulders with Bazille and audio-to-midi and Sampler...

  • @Littlewoodg Did you ever see the movie '12 Monkeys'? This smells like a somewhat happier version of that :) Keep at it and be certain you're having more fun than at least one Englishman up to his elbows in something closer to 'Mansfield Park' here in Austin tonight. Lucky man.

Love 12 Monkeys. Pitt's wonky eyeball kills me every time, and La Jette, well now, that's a provenance

Hope fun finds you in Austin, quick (which I'm thinking is a safe bet)

What tickles my funny bone about ikaossilater to live is I have usually forgotten what I've sent to myself - it's a quick 64 bars when working in ikaossilator, so several little oddly colored items will be waiting in the laptop when I get back to it, critters that I won't even recognize as my own

  • How does it handle the export? What parts get exported?

Exports all tracks as an Ableton project, wav samples in one file, and an Ableton project file that loads each part as a separate clip for session view.
Ableton can turn audio clips in midi, and lift groove info

What I mean is, does it just export all the loops you have stored? And what about the gestures?

I assume it will export the gestures, as it wouldn't make much sense to just export the loaded sound, but what about the loops? Doesn't it come loaded with a huge bank of factory loops? Do you have to delete those first so they won't get exported?

Hopefully that makes sense, and by loops I don't mean the factory sounds which you can load into the loop slots.

Your iKaossilator project is exported as separate audio clips, both as separate wav, and as clips in the Ableton project clip format. These are the separate clips of up to 64 bars recorded using factory sounds, loops or user samples you've loaded in your instruments slots and "played" on the kaoss pad. The movement and timing of your gestures shape the sound that is recorded and exported as audio (this isn't the rec mode at the top of the screen, as accessed via settings. That mode creates a single wave file of a live performance, exported as a mixed down single wav.)

  • Ah okay, so you just get the five clips then. Thanks for the replies.

  • Hi Littlewoodg.

All makes sense and I might try it - but how are you getting 64 bars? It's max 64 beats in iKaos isn't it? So that's 16 bars.

Or are you faking it by quartering the tempo?

  • Actually I'm wrong. Looks like 64 sixteenths. So 4 bars max.

  • @Matt
    Yes, my math sucked!
I get all groovy and the maths are the first to go
