Iconnectmidi2+ lightning. No midi coming thru
I do not have a lot of experience with midi but I'm still surprised at how difficult this is. I have my Windows 8.1 computer hooked up through USB to my iPad air thru my new IconnectMidi2+ and I'm running a music DAW called Rapid Composer, hoping to hear the midi coming through on Thumbjam. I've gone into the midi settings for both from Thumbjam and rapid composer and set it to the Iconnectmidi2 but I just don't get any midi coming through. I don't see anything flashing on the Iconnectmidi either. I've loaded the Iconnect Iconfig app on the iPad but I'm not really sure what to do there. The instruction manual says it should be pretty straightforward, almost plug-and-play but I'm not having any luck. Anybody else had this experience?

Sounds like you need to set up you iConnectmidi 2 + port routings.
Go into iConfig and select Port Routings.
You will now be presented with a grid of buttons one for each of the available ports for the device. The DIN Ports are your 2 physical 5 pin in and outs on the back of the unit. The USB 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 ,2.4 are the virtual ports available to your computer and the USB 1.1, 1.2 etc are the ports available on the ipad end. Any of these ports can be routed to any or all of the others.
For a basic computer to ipad set up. Route the USB 2.1 port to the USB 1.1 port:
Press the USB 2.1 button on the first port routing page.
The second port routing page will now appear.
Here, press the USB 1.1 button.
That's it. You' ve now routed the midi data passing through the 2.1 port on the computer to the 1.1 port on the ipad.
Now you need to set up your outs and ins on the computer and ipad respectively.
I'm not familiar with Rapid Composer but somewhere you should have a setting firstly to enable the outputs of the midi device and secondly where you select the output of the individual midi track you wish to control Thumbjam with .
Set the RC track to output on USB 2.1. Now go to Thumbjam and select the USB 1.1 port for its midi input.
If you're ICM 2+ is installed and set up correctly, the RC track should now be controlling Thumbjam.
Thanks for your help @zeropoint. Using the app Iconfig on my iPad, under Port Routing, I am doing like you say but I'm confused, USB 2.1 says "Din 1" below it and then on the second page USB 1.1 says "Din1" as well. Anyways that's what I've selected but still no go, any other thoughts?
Don't worry, you're not alone . I think the port routing layout is not the best design. Would have been much easier to understand if the routing information all appeared on one page like Midibridge for example......
What do you mean by " Din 1 BELOW it " ? Do you mean that when you press USB 2.1 , you have Din 1 selected on the second page ?
For now, the only selection on the second page (when you press USB 2.1 on the first page) should be USB 1.1 - it should change to a brown colour when selected. Is this how you have it set up ?
When you have it set up like this. Save the configuration (blue configuration tab in bottom right corner) and call it something like "computer to ipad basic". You can also save this routing to flash by selecting Device Functions in bottom right and selecting "save to flash". This will make sure that this routing is the one that iconfig boots with every time rather than the factory default.
I too have very little MIDI knowledge or experience, but I was able to get the ICM 2+ to work in Live and FLStudio, without tinkering with the iconfig software (It took some time, mind !)
An email to Robert at iconnectivity was returned with the advice to select 'MIDIIN3' for the input and output of MIDI between the computer and the iPad (and to select the same port on your app).
I had to do a fair bit of trial and error to get it working in both DAWs, I haven't spent much time with it yet, but it is proving to be somewhat 'flaky' (has rebooted the iPad a few times) on my Win 7 machine when it controls an app. Audio pass through fine and using apps as MIDI controllers from the iPad is working fine though.
^bingo.
Port 3 = USB MIDI from your PC to/from ipad.
When i press USB 2.1 on page 1 this what I have on page 2.
Hey RJB, if you need iConnectivity troubleshooting assistance, feel free to send us your details here: www.iconnectivity.com/support That way our support team can walk you through iConfig or any other issues you are having with your interface. We hope to hear from you soon.
Cheers!
@ RJB ....ok so you have the DIN 1 port routing enabled as well. No matter, it should work for you if your unit is working properly and your midi out in RC and midi in in Thumbjam are set up correctly. Using Port 3 didn't work for you either ? Maybe best now to take Josh up on his offer of assistance if you're still not getting any joy......over to you Josh :-)
I'm starting to think that it's RapidComposer, my PC composition program. Thanks for your help, I contacted Iconnectivity so hopefully they'll be able to sort it out.
