iMaschine , Audiobus, IAA.

edited January 2015 in General App Discussion

I haven't seen this mentioned around here, but iMaschine got updated in December. It now sports Audiobus and inter-app audio. From what I've read on these boards a lot of people had a problem with those omissions. I'm wondering how people are finding the updated version.

  • Hm, it's strange. A day-old review on the app store bemoans iMaschine's lack of of AB integration but the promo blurb says that AB is there. Weird.

Me, I'm just trying to decide between iMaschine and TriqTraq or

  • I haven't spent much time with this app at all, but just fired it up in AB and didn't encounter any issues. I'm not seeing any recent reviews that bemoan any lack of AB, but my quick test (iOS 7.1.2, iPad 4) didn't show any issues with AB.

  • Hi accent. So you can use AB to get recordings out of iMaschine into Audioshare and/or other apps?

  • Yep - I can confirm iMaschine lets you record out via AB into Audioshare. I've done it a lot.

I didn't know it had IAA. Haven't checked that.

  • Ahh but can u record to I Machine?

  • Just checked. And no, afraid not as far as I can see.

Just mic in recording into iMashine.

  • I don't know whether it's matter of the market moving on, but I got this quite a long way back, realized it wasn't happening for me without AB etc and then when I returned to it after the update felt as though the train had left the station. Might be because I am more versed with the other capabilities as regards cat-skinning at this point.

  • I've been employing iMaschine a great deal since the AB update. It just sounds nicer than other drum/percussion sound sources. Plus, I just love the UI.

  • The sounds that come with it - plus the in app purchases are great. That's the main draw IMO.

The 'live play' mode is also pretty cool.

The UI is great on an iphone.

Because of the size I don't have it on my iPad.

  • imaschine works in IAA, I really like the UI but I still can't find a purpose for it due to it's limitations. If it had a basic tracker style pattern sequencer maybe then it will be useful for me.

  • I know what you mean Hex047.

I've just been recording the samples out of it for use in Gadget (where you can actually make full tracks).

Weirdly iMaschine won Music Tech's "Best App of the Year" - one place ahead of Korg Gadget. Can't say I see the logic in that.

  • @Matt_Fletcher_2000 as mentioned previously, the Best App thing was yet one more venal example of how shit trade publishing can be.

  • Most trade awards should be retitled 'highest paying advertiser' of the year.

I like iMaschine, it's low latency, sounds good and I like the UI. To be a serious contender it needs a record-in feature though, and I agree with JG that it feels a bit old hat compared with what's available today.

It always seems a couple of years behind the competition, maybe it'll get some new features next year.
