Ableton beatmakers, you need to check out Beat Machine - time indepedent pitch shift 24 bit samples
Hey, just wanted to give props to one of the developers on this forum who I think has gone unrecognized for great work, dreamless and his Beat Machine app.

I'm not affiliated with the dude in anyway but as a long time Audiobus user and very frustrated user of Ableton wanna be apps that don't end up making the cut, I just purchased the pitch shift IAP for Beat Machine and it's pretty cool. It can take 24 bit samples and similar to Ableton, you can pitch up or down the samples without speeding up or slowing down the sample. You do have that option but you control it.

two thumbs up in a dixie cup, I never understood why people weren't more vocal about this one, although it reminds me more of old beatmachines with it's offline pitch shift than abletons realtime stretch. Something about it just has a cool vibe to it, it's not overly polished. The cpu meter goes kind of high on it though could probably be optimized a little more but it's one of my favs
Thanks for the endorsement! It should be noted that these are time stretch / pitch shift algorithms from the 90's, and thats exactly how they sound.
The majority of apps and desktop software that utilize time stretch and pitch shift are using the same licensed algorithms. Usually elastique pro or maybe Dirac. Licenses for these algorithms are very expensive and there is no way I can afford it, so I had to roll my own based on old technology. This worked out great however because these are the same old algorithms from rackmount samplers from the 80's-90's.
The time algorithm is great for pitching one shot percussive samples. Just adjust the transient knob until the attack of the sample comes through. The frequency algorithm has a dreamy kind of shoegaze sound to it and works well for pitching melodic parts out of songs to put in a beat.
@dreamless - don't know if you read the other thread but one problem I'm having is I'm unable to find the song sample that I imported using your pitch shift iap. I can load it into a pad but when I want to assign other pads to it, I can't find it in the sample fodder. Thanks in advance
I think you might have to save the kit for the sample to be saved in the sample folder. I'll check today after work. Try resampling a clip with a name like 0001.wav so it shows up at the top of the list to make sure it's there.
Great drum app!

Unfortunately no dice. Tried saving it but still does not appear in samples folder. Also, is there a way to trigger the original sample or does it have to be resampled in order to be assigned to a pad?
On completely different note, since you mentioned shoegaze, did you hear about some new shoegaze documentary that's out right now? When I first saw your screen name awhile back, I thought you might be into shoegaze music.

It works for me...
We need:
-File/folder management (1000 sample scrolling for loading is a no-go)
-Note-Repeat /Roll button
I was about to complain for the rotary knobs on pitch/stretch . I though they were really slow, but (tip):
If you try moving the knob quickly you get more precise steps. If you move it slowly you can change the value fast! nice!
There is a nice glitch on stretching (@Dreamless leave it as it is!) :
If you keep changing the speed (on time-stretch) mode while previewing, the sound "freezes". Cool fx!
I know I need to make the sample folder load subfolders. I think it's annoying now too. I think I might have to ask another dev how they're doing it because I can think of multiple ways it can be done but I want it to work like Audioshare.
Resampling also works for me (I can see the file in the folder), so it might be one of those bugs that only happens sometimes under certain conditions. There is another one that users are reporting where it only responds to MIDI channel 1. I also can't make this happen (I can get it to work on all channels), so I guess it's another rare one. I'll keep trying to find these bugs while I update it with some new colors and features.
The time stretch glitches when you change the speed because the algorithms operate on the entire buffer at once rather than one sample at a time. This is also why they don't work in real time.
There are plenty of apps for iOS and OSX that license the elastique or dirac algorithms if you want the most modern high quality pitch shift / time stretch. As far as I know Beat-Machine is the only app that uses the classic algorithms, so it's the app to get if you want that sound. Both algorithms can still sound pretty musical depending on the source.
please keep the classic algorithms the way they are, or at least as an option and I believe korakios was asking the same thing.
if you're going to get help from another dev then Jonatan is the way to go espcecially if you want it to work like audio share!!!
is it possible for you to implement flac file support, and also sampling from iTunes while listening so that we could just sample a snippet of music out of a file while we are listening to it play/audition… as opposed to having to completely load the file up?
No need to change the algorithms , we like it as it is. Trully. If you have time ,you could add some kind of modulation between the sample and the synth mode. I really enjoy on playing a natural kick drum and assign a subsynth on the same pad. Or some noise with a jazz snare...Really cool. It helps me destroying every piece of the samples origin with the help of pitching and stretching...
layering, simoult feature would be great
