  • Thanks for the link. I get the impression it's US only, but I shall look again later in case.

I think these are MIDI controllers and don't produce sound.

    Oops.

  • One star rating!!!
I want to give them -1 for running only in US store.

  • They do in fact produce sound I can verify. I have synth/arp drumpad. I am not sure if they can be used for midi control.

  • Mobile Music Sequencer is also free. This one produces sound.

    https://itunes.apple.com/app/id580022906?mt=8

  • I have both of those and yes they both produce sound. I do not use the first one much and only recently got music sequencer. It looks like a pain in the ass to figure out but does sound very good really.

  • Only U.S stores. Not the rest of the world stores. :-(

  • There are two apps with the almost the same name: Keyboard Arp & Drums and Synth Arp & Drum. The keyboard one is a one star app and hasn't been updated in a long time. The Synth one was just updated two weeks ago and is AB ready. Both for free in US store. Plus other Yamaha apps.

  • I wonder why. A desperate pointless dice throw or the precursor to something or other...?

  • Interesting that the Synth Arp & Drum Pad is 85 MB whereas the Keyboard Arp & Drum Pad is 8.7 MB. The description and reviews for the Keyboard Arp & Drum Pad led me to believe it's just a MIDI controller. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I think it's just a NAMM thing. A bunch of their apps went free for months last summer.

  • I do not own keyboard arp so it may in fact be just a controller the other two are the ones that make sound that I am sure of.

  • I have Keyboard Arp & Drum Pad and it is just a MIDI controller with a pile of arps.

  • Go Youtube and look for "How to get free phrases - Yamaha Mobile Music Sequencer"

  • Thanks , for the tip . I need to watch Doug's video on this one again I think. Some of the phrases are pretty good.

The price history for Yamaha Mobile Music Sequencer is nuts. How can you go from $16 to free over and over without seriously pissing people off?

    http://appshopper.com/music/mobile-music-sequencer-us

I've yet to actually download it - could never figure out exactly what it does. Probably not for me anyway.

  • I seldom use apps like this for anything but drums. I prefer to make my own bass lines ect. However, this is decent if only for the drums especially for FREE!

@fjcblanco Thanks for the notion. I do find it disconcerting that the guy in the demo is constantly doing something in between each selection off screen and to the right...No idea.

I can't believe that this is going to come anywhere close to the front page for me, but I do have a folder of funny little things that sometimes I will go noodle around with when needing to clean my palate or just get a fresh idea. More often than not this exercise reminds me exactly why these objects are where they are and just how great Thor/Gadget/Thumb Jam/Egotist/Whatever is in the first place....all good.

There are some things that simply...I can't understand...like these synths from Yamaha, AKAI Synthstation or this one: Digital Bass Line (DB 303)

This app was release July 2010. No news along three years, zero updates (I don't know anything similar), and suddenly, on sale two times since December...iOS 4 compatible (sic).

Obviously, don't expect AB, IAA or anything else. Long live Rhythm Studio! :)

  • @JohnnyGoodyear, if I can replicate what that video shows, trust me, everybody can.

  • Saw a rumor somewhere about an iOS AN synth....

Oh a proper Yamaha synth on iOS. ANix would be super. I'd love to see an editor mode for my AN1x hardware included, but given yamahas General interest and the quality of their output so far on the format, I won't hold my breath waiting for it.

Both Synth Arp and Drum Pad and Mobile Music Sequencer have their uses. Both come with many phrases, both are multi channel sound banks, both have unique midi manipulation send features. SADP has a configurable pad that sends multiple notes to different channels, or to the onboard arp. MMS is a clip based sequencer that can reharmonize melodies if you program in the original chord of a clip, has an innovative non destructive remix function that can mutate a clip based on interfering time signatures, and also has an onboard audio analysis engine that can extract chords from songs in the iTunes library. And MMS can drive IAA apps so it can be used as the primary midi sender, and it's universal so you'll get it for the phone for free, too. Exotic stuff I haven't seen anywhere else. Just having the two taught me a bit about music theory and new ways of looking at things. Worth the price especially if they're free.

  • Good stuff, @Zetagy. Thanks.

  • The QY pack IAP for MMS has over 1000 phrases from the old hardware QY range.

  • Still only free for US. No good.

  • I have a spare room Mister @fjcblanco :)

  • AppZapp just alerted me that the versions outside the U.S. store are free as well (or will be soon). Remember that Yamaha, like a few others, have two different Appstore acc. One for US and one for all the other 194 countries in the world.
