Cool. I actually am not much of a guitar player, but I do a lot with guitar apps in iOS.
E.g. I use guitarism as a controller to drive synths and soundfonts... Essentially playing guitar voicings with other instruments (lots of guitar soundfonts, for just the right sound!). I also use ifretless.
I also like guitar capo+ and ifretless.
Sometimes I'll create guitar voicings of chords in chordpolypad, and use that to drive steppolyarp, which again I will send out to guitar apps that take midi in (sadly, not enough). I will also use midisequencer or genome drive these apps, especially with midisequencer chords.
Point being that a lot of iOS musicians want guitar in their songs, but might have the traditional chops. I would love a community where guitarists and virtual guitarists can exchange ideas around the possibilities for guitar on iOS.
Finally, I dig tone stack, bias, holderness, etc for processing these sounds.
Great post! I like the idea of a good source specializing on guitar. I've been asking for suggestions to address a couple synth guitar needs. I can only play Dobro at the time due to spinal chord injury, so I'm looking to synth to lay down the backing tracks, then lay down dobro, harmonica, vocals etc. I'm just getting started. Just finished my first song, and I really liked the basic Gargeband smart guitar, but I'd like to know what is similar to expand rhythms. Any advise on these questions would be greatly appreciated:
Any add-on to expand GB smart guitar or other app that uses similar auto-play?
I really like the mic feature on ThumbJam, humming input & it changes to instrument output. I can't seem to get it to work though. I'm using it in Audiobus with GB, just pressing mic, and it doesn't give me instrument selection from there. What am I missing?
I'd like to also be able to play my harmonica into the app, and have it change the sound to guitar or other instruments. Is it plausible to do this with ThumbJam? If not, what other apps would you suggest?
great, i play no real physic Guitar, but like the Art to play with the virtualGids!
what i miss is Turnado, esp. the Dictator Mode on a MidiFootcontroller is a KillerFeature for GuitarPlayas!
and i miss a Search Function.....okay STRG F.....but a Search Field would be nice.....

Hi ltf3 - I just took a look at your site. Real nice! I like your reviews, and hope you continue with more going forward.
thanks for your replies!
I'm hoping to build a community feel to the blog, and actually attract the attention of developers. The quality of most guitar apps falls short of what is being released in the synth domain. I want Unstringed to help raise the bar and let developers know what we want, need and expect!
So feel free to comment ... And visit often. I'll be posting often and more full reviews are in process!

Nice! I bookmarked the site. Maybe the user base isn't huge, but there is a need for a place to discuss updates to the various guitar apps on iOS. That happens here on AB forum to an extent, but posts in threads get lost in the noise. For example, if new content packs are released for BIAS, ToneStack, etc., I would like to see a discussion of that content and whether it's worthwhile (John Walden at Music App Blog does this, but he does synths and all things iOS music also).
