Two Problems With GarageBand

edited January 2015 in General App Discussion

Just finished my first song using GB, Vocalive & the bus. Now I'm running into two glitches.

  1. The Fade will not work in GB. I switch it off and on, close out the app / restart etc. It just does nothing although it says it on.

  2. The email option for exporting the song is not appearing at all.

Thanks in advance for any help...

  • GarageBand on ios sucks for editing - you can't even do a simple volume fade in or out. It only does a fade out on the entire song. It's quite limited in many ways.

There are a few DAWs out there that manage things better - Auria, mutual track studio, Cubasis, BeatMaker2...

  • Yeah, I'm quickly finding that out. I need to look at other options, no doubt. Out of all you mentioned here, it seems I see the most of Cubasis.

  • There are no fade tools in the iOS version, a serious omission. I use GB as it doesn't put a big load on my old CPU but as soon as I upgrade the pad I'll probably go for Auria. For now I have to manually fade stuff in via the instrument while I'm recording - 1950's style

Overall users seem to love Cubasis yes but on this forum Auria is just as popular if not more. Auria pro should be out soon though . I am considering buying the original Auria at half off to compliment Cubasis. The original Auria lacks midi capabilities found in Cubasis, the pro version is rumored to take care of that glaring omission.

  • I'm confused, are you indicating the current version of Auria doesn't support MIDI, if so it does:) I assume you mean more detailed functionalities within MIDI?

There is a fade tool (just on or off switch) in the version I have in os 8. You just switch it on, and it's supposed to fade 10 seconds. You can do it for individual tracks or the whole song. The switch shows on when I set it, but it does nothing.

Ah right, I don't think I've got that option - maybe it's an iOS 8 thing.

    Is Auria still on sale?

  • I don't think so. I have both but I prefer Auria, even without MIDI.

For every minute of Cubasis I do an hour of Auria.

  • @Dobros -- Fade out works...however I had to delete the last measure, which was blank. I wasn't getting a fade and I knew it used to work so that was the trick. The track now runs to the very end of the tune, the fade out works okay.

For emailing(exporting) here is what I see. Press Select, tap the song you want...I get a blue bar around the file. Then the symbols for Open-in, Copy, Delete, and iCould options appear in the upper left corner. I tap the Open-In icon and the first row shows Email, Youtube, Soundclod *, etc, below that are options for iTunes, Ringtone, and Open In. I usually use Open In and take it to Audioshare (which now has a built in fade in and out function).

    • Soudclod...I mistype that so often I don't correct it anymore and now I pronounce it that way.

@monzo: for me it shows €24.99 for the full version, so yes it seems that it's on sale.

Thanks, I'll have to have a closer look.

There are surely better DAWs out there, but none so easy to use & designed so well for the iPhone (not to mention AB compatibility) that I have yet to be handcuffed by it... but then I surely don't dive in nearly as deep as some you fellers do!

  • I'm an Auria guy, but my son still prefers GB since he knows how it works, and is just more comfortable using it. Of course, there are many things it just can't do, but he focuses on the things it CAN do, and accomplishes quite a bit.

  • Lots of praise for Auria. I was really impressed with it after watching some tutorials. Plus, the half off price pretty much clinched it, so I went with it. Looking forward to getting busy. I appreciate all the input.

Do you import projects from GB into Auria? I'm wondering if there is a way to import it with separate tracks other than moving one track at a time.

  • On the US App Store it shows the price as 24.99. Is that the half off price?

  • Yep. It's normally $50 which is the same price as Cubasis. There's a Pro Tools expert on youtube who gives it extremely high reviews along with a lot of people here. I just got it, but from what I've seen so far, it looks to be a deal not to pass up.
