How to get rid of the red "Audiobus (Recording)" bar across the top of the screen

Or, how to close Audiobus:

  1. From the Home screen, click the Home button twice.
  2. Tap and hold on the app.
  3. When it starts to jiggle, tap the red (-) on its top left corner to close it.

  • The red dot is on the upper left - on mine ; ^ )

  • Hah! I thought I was the one with problems telling left from right. Guess it's Sebastian too ;-)

    Cheers for the heads-up.

  • A "suspend" button would be nice.

  • Huh... but that would only do so much, because all the other apps would still be recording. It'd only make a difference when Audiobus was the last thing running.

  • The rest of apps can receive a suspend signal and follow your guidelines...

  • But if I'm remembering Michael's analysis of the situation correctly, you can't change the 'keep alive' state of an app while it's in the background.

  • An app can definitely put itself to sleep while in the background (it just disables the audio session, and/or stop the active graph). But it can't wake itself up, so Audiobus would need to actually cause a switch-to of all the apps in the chain, which is totally doable, as it effectively does the same thing when it launches an app the first time.

  • Hum... ok, you're right. Something to think about then.

  • I think the self-suspending should be a voluntary thing that AB-compatible apps would implement, based on a delegate callback from the AB controller. That way each app could handle it properly for their needs.

  • From a workflow perspective, self-suspending 'just because' should never happen. It must be user-triggered, otherwise it'd interfere with user's workflow, when switching between configurations.

  • We should continue in the developer forum. Users seeing this thread are going to be confused, I think.

  • I noticed the red bar shows up without Audiobus open at all. Last night I used Loopy, Drum Jam and Thumb Jam in an Audiobus session after which I killed all the apps. Today I opened Loopy, DJ and TJ but NOT Audiobus and the red bar is there. Not sure what it means maybe this is a Loopy behavior as the red bar goes away when I kill that app.
Like everyone else I went app crazy this week when AB was released and bought Loopy which I'm just learning. I'm using iPhone 4S with iOS 6.01

    I'm on the bus.
    Great job on Audiobus!

  • Yes, Loopy will also use the recording style of audio session which will bring up the red bar. The name of the application that is controlling that recording session is always in the red bar itself.

  • How can I hide the red status bar? It's problematic on Figure, because it covers the beat map, which makes it difficult to compose. Thanks a ton.

  • I hate the red "recording" bar. Becomes a REAL problem trying to use iPhone apps on iPad, but in that case, so too does the entire time and connection bar.

The red bar feels like an archaic remnant of a time before AudioBus and IAA. It doesn't even actually tell you if the armed track is actively recording - it shows up even when you're in the home screen. AudioBus (and IAA, too, though it never works for me) mini-controls do the job that the red bar is supposed to do, and all it does is get in the way.

  • @jones i hear u! Cant stand it while trying to work with figure
