This will probably happen some day but can't give you any time frame though. Next feature in 1.0.3 is MIDI input using IAA as well as bug fixes.

    Ok, thanks for the consideration.

    Keep up the good work.

  • a very welcome feature for 1.03 would be background audio.
(if that option aready exists I haven't found it yet)

and thanks for the midi option explanation, now it is a little less confusing!

  • @otristan, Just a quick question regarding the Song Export function. When choosing Export, where do the rendered files go? I could never understand saving to iTunes, because you cannot access it from the iPad. It is my understanding that saving a file to iTunes can only be accessed from a desktop computer (Mac or PC) running iTunes. Is there a way that the Exported files can be saved to AudioShare, or "Open In" directly on the iPad.

In particular, when Export Multi is chosen, would it be possible to Open In Cubasis, Auria, or other iPad DAWs directly on the iPad as separate tracks? That way each track can be processed with its own extra effects. I Exported Multi a song that I made, but do not know where the song is stored or accessed. Please excuse my ignorance.

  • Export goes to the itunes shared folder, this one cannot be accessed in other app but only from iTunes.

Right now you cannot export to Audio Copy directly but you can do a traditional export, then, in the BH browser, select User Library, double finger tap the mix and select Audio Copy: copy

    Hope this helps.

First of all, what you need to understand is that BH is a multi timbral instrument with one dedicated MIDI channel per pad.

Each Pad is on its own MIDI Channel? That is ALL 16 Channels. How could I possibly incorporate BeatHawk into any sort of larger MIDI setup if it is listening to all notes on every.single.channel?

"Send Omni" doesn't mean that BH send any MIDI data but that the channel is discarded in the received MIDI and you will be able to play all pads using a single MIDI channel (which means that in pad mod you cannot choose the pitch of the pad but only play a C3)

Perhaps labelling this "Disregard Channel Data" or "Lock 1-Pad Per Pitch" might be a better idea?

"Send to Selected Pad" means that BH only send MIDI data to the currently selected pad. like in pitch mode.

Perhaps labelling this "Only send MIDI to the currently selected pad" or, "Lock Pitch Mode for Selected Pad"?

I get the feeling that I am suggesting this be controllable via a CC command. That way, using a single channel, you can play the kit/pads, and then, flipping a CC you could just play pitch-mode on a single sample [the last one played before flipping this switch].

"MIDI select" just select visually the pad with MIDI (as opposed to by clicking on the iPad only)

I'm sorry, I do not understand.

Unless you trigger BH from an external sequencer or know what you are doing, you probably don't want to change this :)

I do use external gear and while I am having trouble integrating BH into my setup, I DO know what I am doing thankyouverymuch. :-|

Mute the unused/desired channel/pad or don't have a sample loaded in?

  • Yes BH take 16 MIDI channel but any daw will let you have 16 channels per instrument AFAIK. So I don't consider this to be an issue.

Will see if we can rephrase option so it makes more sense.

Right now you cannot switch page using MIDI CC but if you do it on the iPad, the current workflow is what you suggest. Omni on pad mode and currently selected pad on pitch mode

Regarding MIDI select, in pad mode, if you press a D3 then it will select the third pad allowing you to edit its volume/pan ADSR.

  • If this is still unclear, please clarify what you are trying to achieve, so I can guide you.

  • 1st: Ability to DELETE or REMOVE unwanted samples
2nd: Library by if it is a LOOP, INSTRUMENT, or SAMPLE -- NOT genre. Most of us are not limited to "just disco" or "funK". Ease of access to allow quicker navigating.

IAA (outside synth use on the BH platform)
    IAA (for Fx)

    • effects and more adjustments than gain/pan/HP-LP

    Otherwise, I like it.

  • 1st: you can remove user sample
2st: you can do a multi selection of soundbank by double finger tap the left column

That's a big (if simple) one. Thanks a lot. Here's a picture of how I would express my joy by way of an appropriate wardrobe choice:

  • another nice little feature would be the option to automatically load the last used project when opening the app or to determine a favorite set of sounds to launch
    that would be really nice

  • When will we see the New York Urban sound pack?

  • @DaveMagoo Good catch, but I'm afraid I cannot give you any timeline though

  • @nick said:

This will be done because I agree it would be the best behavior

Wish granted, we should have done this at the first place.

  • great to hear that!
I really enjoy the app and how you guys are committed to making it better

  • @BastienCo +1 Keep up the effort. Lots of us are watching how this app progresses. I promise the sound pack business will only increase as the app options do :)

  • yes, people are watching the IAA full support and AB on Beathawk

  • Any news on how the user sampling options will be expanded? ie: users slicing beats across the keys or sampling into Beathawk via Audiobus or IAA etc...

  • @DaveMagoo I'm afraid I cannot talk about our future plans besides our commitment to make the app better. Hope you understand.

  • Background audio is here. yeah!

    @BastienCo thanks guys!

i remember a website that had all those secret program badges, was great fodder for my conspiracy-ravaged young psyche

  • @nick how do you think you'll make the most of this new functionality Sir Nick?

  • @JohnnyGoodyear

I'm having a lot of fun playing with auxy and controlling external sound sources with it . . . beathawk has some amazing sounds, choirs, pianos, drums -- it is nice to use them outside of beathawk as well
-- and you can even record auxys patterns into beathawk . . . so two of the most intuitive just play apps now work a lot more seamless together

Hmm. Hadn't made the Auxy connection (literally and otherwise :). I will def. follow your lead and have a go with those in tandem.. Thanks.

  • Great update many thanks @BastienCo :)

  • @BastienCo, your 1.0.3 update includes "Receives MIDI from Inter-App Audio (Instrument instead of Generator)". I am trying to figure out what is new? BeatHawk still won't sync to MIDI clock (tempo) from another iOS app. I can, however, use another app to generate MIDI notes, like Cubasis or Xthynsizer, which can be recorded into BeatHawk; but I could do that before the 1.0.3 update. Could you explain a little clearer how this particular update works?
