GarageBand still won't load into output slot without crashing, but still lots of other testing to do. How goes it for you guys?

I'll try it out on the phone...

edit: sorry, I don't use GB on phone, but Loopy HD is working fine with the AB 2.1.9 update.

  • I just tested this on my iphone 4s (iOS 7.1.2) and was able to load GB in the output slot of AB 2.1.9.

Did you try to restart/reset your device?

  • I was able to load GB into output slot on iPad air2 with iOS 8

    ^ Me too (Air 1)

  • Ah...could the update be the cause of my frustrating afternoon? Decided to have a proper go with cubasis. Loaded it in output, gadget in input. Cubasis crashed. Same with Module.

  • Yes, yes, hard restarts, completely reinstalled both AB and GB = same shit. I'm out.

  • Personally I'm seeing less and less usage for AudioBus...

I'm using AudioShare as my main 'hub' for recording loops and sounds as it has a very nice way of chaining effects and processing sound thru them, the recorded stuff can then easily be imported into Cubasis which is my main DAW at the moment.

Thankfully the AudioBus SDK enables apps to act as IAA-Generators.

  • Thanks for the warnings...Will not update for now...

  • Er. Nope. Not yet.

  • GB loading fine on Air 1, 8.1.3 in Audiobus 2.1.9 here.

  • Ain't movin' till it's groovin'

    Ditto for me.

supadom, you always make me laugh. Keep 'em coming. ...and keep on groovin'.

  • It's my interface. Whenever I have my Steinberg UR44 plugged in and try to open GB in output slot, instacrash every time. But without the interface, it opens. WTF

Hehe, I just finished getting together my mega looping set up. Loving loopy, turnado and samplr sync'd together. Not perfect but not massively bad either. No glitches at all. I've rediscovered turnado and the one knob dictator action. I assigned it to the big knob on my beatstep which makes me feel godlike :)

I've had enough of those Apple downdates.

  • @ringleader I have the same thing happen with cubasis when I hookup my interface. But only if i have AB open. Without AB everything works with or without my interface. I'm still 7.1.2, but have updated all apps.

  • edited February 2015

Cubasis crashes and burns in output slot only when UR44 is connected.

AB team - Has something changed in regards to how AB handles interfaces with multiple hardware output capability?

@Bootsy what interface are you using? Does it have multiple outputs?

  • I use a focusrite 18i8 or a presonus 44vsl. Both have multiple input output. And both crash cubasis.

It does not crash when using my Apogee One. So either it is something to do with multiple outs or more than two inputs. And it isn't affecting all apps either, just GB and Cubasis that I've noticed so far. But there is something going on here!

iPad Air 2, latest versions of everything

Edit: Changed thread category to support and feedback to hopefully trigger a response from Seb or Mike.

  • It was doing the cubasis crash before I updated the latest AB, I was hoping the update would fix it. And yes it doesn't do it with other apps that I've tried. I'll try Garageband when I get home.

Yes, I was having troubles with GB before this update too and gave up on it. That is why in first post I had the "still" in there. So I don't think this new version of AB broke it, for anyone who wants to update their app.

It could be on GB or Cubasis end too. Who knows.

    Nope, nothing from our end.

We already knew about the crashes with GB and Cubasis, and I've alerted the respective teams about it; they're looking into it. Alas, there's nothing more I can do myself, as further diagnosis requires their source code. I do encourage you to send mail to Apple/Steinberg though, to make sure they've not forgotten =)

  • Anyone got an email address for Cubasis? Their forum doesn't look particularly well used and it's irritating me that they've still got the flattering quote from @sebastian on their homepage about their brilliant Audiobus implementation, but every time I try to use it, it dozes off in the output slot...

  • Cubasis is loading fine on my Air 1, 8.1.3 in Audiobus 2.1.9 in the output slot. This doesn't help your problem but it's a data point nonetheless.

The issue is seemingly tied to multi output audio interfaces. With no interface connected, it works.

  • Just for the record: I confirm the issue of Cubasis refusing to load properly in the AB v2.1.9 Output slot when using a multi-output audio i/f (UR44 in my case). However, I don't have a problem with GarageBand. Similarly, no such issues with Auria, MultiTrackDAW and AudioShare.

Re GarageBand, I should point out that I'm still on iOS v7.1.2 so my GB hasn't been upgraded past v2.0.1.

@Ringleader: Are you happy with your UR44?

  • @Washboy - It sounds great. It works well for the most part, sometimes it is slow to play audio upon start up. I like the built in processing but don't use the guitar amps as much as I thought I would. I wish it charged the iOS device and that the loop back worked on iOS. I will try the iCA4+ and if I like it will probably sell the UR44. You like yours?

  • Sailing fine today.

  • I'm having major issues with GB via Audiobus - it's developed the habit of switching off recording while I'm in the middle of a track, and occasionally freezes up until I reboot everything. Last night it really played up - I couldn't record more than a few seconds before everything started glitching until it eventually crashed. Basically GB is unusable via AB now for me so that puts paid to my iOS music making for now.
