iOS 9

Wonder if this will take care of any of the troubles us all musicians have been havin with the lovely ios 8? I don't really understand why "stuff" doesn't really work all that well with some apps/audiobus/IAA and so on with ios 8.

Here's hoping for a seamless upgrade, or something...........

  • They must be taking cues from Microsoft now... the good OS's skip a generation.

  • This is good news, just hoping ios 9 passes the alchemy test.

  • Alchemy seems to work just fine in iOS 9!

  • So, iOS 9 GM is out. Considering updating my iPad today...

  • Alchemy is the biggest concern for me. Glad to hear at least one report that it is working (so far). I'm still going to wait a bit to let the dust settle.

@sebastian : I wonder if the mystery beep (radar 18793520) has gone ^^

  • First impressions - very good. Seems to be faster and more responsive on my iPad 2. Folders are now bigger (4x4).

Before update I had 750Mb of free space, now - 1.05 GB. A bit disappointing but I guess we will eventually get more free space once devs start uploading new app builds to the app store. This is how it should work: http://arstechnica.com/apple/2015/06/app-thinning-will-be-a-major-boon-for-8gb-and-16gb-iphones-and-ipads/

  • Samplr not broken ?

  • edited September 2015

Audiobus can't find any compatible apps installed :(

All other apps seem to work fine though more testing required. Not sure about Samplr as I don't have it

  • @yug very interesting article. The app thinning, slicing, and resources on demand seem like they could have a real impact on backup, updates, and how much space apps use on a device. They may also add another level of complication to sort out for both developers and users.

  • I believe TF7 is iOS 9 ready. Have you tested that in Audiobus?

I can't because it tells me that 'No Audiobus apps found', and I have a lot of them installed. I can only select system audio input/output

  • So is it out for download/update?

Do they come back if you reinstall audiobus?

Except you'll need to backup your presets, audiobus still doesn't make that an easy thing, still waiting for an update where you can backup presets via iTunes/ ifunbox, and folders for presets :)

Well, not for all. They usually release the golden master build a week or two ahead of an expected public launch. You can download and install it. This GM build (iOS or OS X) usually becomes the version they release for the general public

If you don't like taking chances, I'd better wait until next Wednesday :)

No, reinstalling it didn't help at all

Samplr seems to work fine, at least on it's own.

Simple question: Can you run multi-thread apps?

    Thanks.

What if you start the apps before you start Audiobus. Do they still not show?

  • Is iOS9 still under NDA?I hope to read some more infos from developer about the"audio unit"story soon.

  • @CrabmanCrabman I can wait one more week. 16th of September is the official release date and I'll be installing it on all my 3 iOS devices :)

Hmm, seems like they do show in that case. When I select an app, Audiobus shows 'Launching'(though it's already running) or sometimes 'Tap for app store' status which is a weird one. Then when I launch the app from Audiobus for the first time, it shows a confirmation dialog (Audiobus wants to open <...> - Open or Cancel) - I think I've never seen that in iOS 8

I hope, @Sebastian will fix this soon ;)

  • Quite expected really. I'm going to sit on 8 until spring. There's gonna be a lot of headaches with split screen thing not being supported by apps etc. So much for 9 being a maintenance update.

  • Thanks @yug for checking

Unfortunately that's the only sensible strategy. I'll probably update the kids iPads and the wife's phone ASAP, but the music-making iPad will stay on 8 until the bugs are ironed out. If previous experience is anything to go by, spring is a good bet :)

  • I'm hoping ios9 will make my 4s useable, but iPad is staying on 8 for a little while (although perhaps not the 9 months I waited to go from 7 to 8).

  • iOS 9 will have to have some must have apps that don't work on iOS 8 before I'm going to take the plunge. Unless everyone says that it runs better than 8 and few apps have problems.

All other apps I have (about 150) seem to work well, no crashes on start. Even Cubasis works fine though it used to crash on start on the last ios9 beta. Of course I haven't tested every feature of the every app

Audiobus has some problems but still can be used. Thanks @supadom for the suggestion. Other apps very important to me - MidiFlow and midimux work just fine. So I can't say I regret updating to ios 9. Not so many changes though... New font, 4x4 icons folders, new cool UI for the list of apps currently running, imroved keyboard, small changes in the App store and Settings apps. My ipad is old so no cool stuff like split screen, etc :)

  • I won't touch the update button until everything is double-tested and re-tested and tested again .... by folks who like to be early adopters, of course. :) I did it a couple of times and have some less than pleasant memories. Besides, everything works fine now and I'd be musically dead, say, without Samplr in the AB input slot... and a number of other apps here and there. So I'll do exactly what is so untypically me: wait patiently.

  • Remains to be seen if my gut-feeling is playing tricks on me or not but I feel we'll be seeing a sh*t-load of updates in the next coming few weeks...
