Video..AUFX Push, Demo and Tutorial, Brilliant

Great app, I go through various scenarios where you may use a compressor and also make a few mistakes

  • Thanks for that, Doug! That was one of the best ever demonstrations/explanations I have seen/heard about different ways to use a compressor. I think I understand them much better now! :)

  • Thanks, it's such a huge subject

Very good Mister Doug. I always feel that your explanations and demonstrations are like sitting at the elbow of a fellow enthusiast who happens to understand a little more than me about the subject or app at hand and isn't trying to impress me with his knowledge, but rather share it with me. A skill and a calling perhaps, well done.

I am a (very humble) patreon of the Soundtest Room and it is an entirely selfish investment, however small, on my part. I would be genuinely disappointed if you stopped putting in the time on this project, especially for the lack of a few shekels. May that not soon be the case.

    Thanks again.

  • Thanks JG, We shall continue to be as helpful as possible, and we all learn as we go

    Thanks Doug, usefull information.

But I hate to say this; Im disappointed in the video quality. It really needs improvement...sorry!

  • Hadn't thought too much about the pastry, but I love the meat.

  • Sure, got no beef with the meat and potatoes!

What a lovely, not to mention spot-on, thing to say.

Thanks for the video, Doug. For what it's worth, I think the technical quality is quite good, particularly for how quickly you bring these things to life. I do find myself wishing for a bit more zoom so more of the video frame is filled with the app on your iPad screen. I often watch your videos either on my second screen while I work or while I'm on my iPhone. I can go full-screen while on the laptop but macs get grumpy with alt-tab then (which my ADD mind and job seems to require every 15 seconds). And yeah, on iPhone it sometimes means just plain not being able to see stuff. /end two-appreciative-and-not-complaining-cents :)

  • I agree that the actual video quality could be much better, it's the Zoom Q2, no focus, I could fill the frame better but the focus would be worse, I have XMirage and the other SC software but the audio suffers, and since .i don't want to jailbreak the iPad and use their SC stuff I'm a bit stuck without investing a considerable amount of money in better a better camera, money which I honestly don't have at the moment. Before the YT Upload the quality is a lot better but the YT go and compress it again.

Of course I'm open to any suggestions on how to improve the quality of the picture, maybe some suggestions on reasonable priced cameras or maybe someone has a better camera and would like to exchange it for some gear, I have lots of stuff knockin around.

  • Good examples of using compresion in general - and Push in particular.

  • Doug does your camera have a macro function? Then you can point your camera closer to the iPad and it will be in focus.

  • No macro, it really is just a dead basic camera

  • Funny you’re using a Zoom Q2HD. I use mine as an iPad mic and headphone amp. It works well as a M/S mic through the CCK, and the audio is routed back out through its headphone jack. All on batteries. It’s currently how I do the planning of vocals for a song on the iPad, in Garageband (which is how I start them off).

  • Thanks so much Doug. I was never quite sure exactly what compression was or how it worked. Now after your video I have a much better understanding of it. Great demonstration.

  • Thanks Doug! Probably my favorite video from you so far! I was having problems figuring out how to do the side chain and your key input section explained it perfectly! Thanks!
