Rhythm Studio or Rebirth?

Hello,
I was thinking about getting one of these old vintage drum machine inspired apps but not sure which is better. I know rhythm studio is cheaper but Rebirth has a bigger name behind it. With that said, to anyone who either owns both apps or has done research on both apps. Which one should I get and which one is better overall.

  • I used Rebirth since its initial release on PC, so the iOS version was a no-brainer purchase. Rhythm Studio was the first app I purchased when I got an iPad. It's not even installed at the minute, and I regularly use Rebirth, just because my 303 is a bit of a pain to program. So I would say go for Rebirth, if you're looking for that (almost) authentic 808/909/303 sound. It's as good as you can get, and loads of fun!

  • +1 for Rebirth, and you can wait for a Rhythm Studio Sale at 0,99 as I did

I you got a PC, try to get the PC version at http://www.rebirthmuseum.com/ even if it's a pain to install it...

  • Rebirth is the much much better emulation.I'm still amazed after all this years how close to the real deal it comes.

Or search the interweb for the Rebirth.v2.01-Radium cracked version. It's easier to install (you don't have to burn it to a cd) and you don't have to insert the cd every time you start the program.
Also, to get the program to run on Windows7, you will probably need to install the windows update KB917607 , which fixes WinHLP32

Sorry, but what does it mean Radium cracked version? (wouldn't offense...)

  • I love rebirth for electric drums a lot. There are hundreds of projects on the iPad rebirth site to download an remix also!

@fjcblanco , Radium was one of the first/best music software cracking groups. They released a modified version of Rebirth v2.01 (the latest version) which installed from the .exe file and also bypassed all the cd checks on startup.

  • I rarely open either but almost always have fun with rhythm studio. It has more possible sounds but not as many features, generally. I'd almost consider it a sort of tabletop light instead of an x0x app.

  • Rhythm Studio is a Universal app, if that makes any difference. As mentioned earlier, it seems to go on sale for $0.99 about 3-4 times per year, if you've got patience.

Seems rebirth it is lol. Thanks for the input everyone.

Don't overlook this one....Audiorealism at the helm....sounds amazingly close to a real 303...

    technoBox2 by Mike Janney

  • Also, if vintage drum machine is really your main goal, don't overlook Funkbox. Great sounds. No real aong mode.

  • Get both. I found Rhythm studio easier to program, plus it has other vintage synths with it, not just TB303s. They also do 909 & 808 individual apps which are quite good. Also, Bassline is a good TB303 clone.

The rythm box bassline? No,it's not. There are settings were it sounds close but if you turn the knobs while playing it doesn't behave like a real 303.

Technobox could be the best emulation (At least their Bassline 2 is the best emu on Desktop,i won it once in an Acid Battle :-) but it's pretty much abandonned and doesn't support Audiobus etc.

  • Last TB2 update was a kind of...The IAA feature lived just for one day while the price was increased. :(

    http://forum.audiob.us/discussion/2247/technobox2-update

  • it has audiocopy...

  • Why should i bother if the other ones offer Audiobus at least?

I wish any or all had multitrack audio and or midi export

I wish rebirth didn't look like doodoo on my iPad 4

I wish technobox2 had AB or IAA

Funny how we (i) keep going after the op left the building with his answer

  • You can check out any time you like, but....

  • I know it's not quite in line with the original post, but who has opinions on Beat-Machine? I bought it some while ago but don't like the way it looks. In retrospect it seems to have depth I hadn't realised. The thing is, I don't spend a lot of time in drum machines or “beat” things, having nearly no interest in drums, so maybe I'm just being impressed unduly.

  • Lots of Beat Machine love round these parts. No, not the prettiest but very powerful. IAPs are very worth it.

I "tried" Rhythm Studio and I have to say I'm not sure I like the style of it too much. From what I see here you can't record automations and even with the synths you have to record them in steps which is taking some getting used to it for me. So I guess I would have to go with Rebirth indefinitely though I will tinker with Rhythm Studio some more.

I also don't like that if you wanted to record lets say some synths on pattern 1 and then you put drums underneath and you only want to copy the synths from pattern 1 and not the drums it doesn't seem possible. Unless there is a way to do it that I'm unaware of.

Um what did he mean by that? LOL

  • I didn't know there's a"trial"version ;)

Its a reference from JohnnyGoodyear to a lyric that says "you can check out anytime you like (but you can never leave)", it was about how I noticed we were all still talking on the thread after you had gotten your answer....

The last device is always that red one with the stripes—it is a live playing surface that you point at one of the four devices. It has a record button that you can use to lay down parts in real time. I think the tb clone needs the app to be playing in order to hear anything. Not sure about automation recording... it's been a while.

Yep, it's a copy-all sort of deal. In that red playing surface thing there is an 'Erase' button. Hit record+play in there and hold down erase—everything will disappear after one bar.

Yep the "trial" version is like many others on the AppStore. It is 5$, or 1$ sometimes on sale, and if you decide you want the "full" version it's cool - you've already paid for it...

    lol

But something inside my head says that this is not really what he meant ;)
