Midi Sync issues. Is there a midi interface that is rock solid?
So early on in my iOS music exploration, I went cheap and got an HDE USB Core Midi interface from Amazon for about $12 shipped. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001LJUVO4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's been doing what I need it to do.... until now. Originally, I was using it to send Midi CCs to knobs in Modular and then using it to send Notes and CC to hardware synths via StepPolyArp. I hadn't noticed any real latency issues until now, when I've been trying to sync my TB-3 and/or Volca Sample to my iPad Air on iOS 8, running Gadget or StepPolyArp. It's late, by about 40ms, if I had to guess.
I was thinking, well maybe this $12 midi interface is simply giving me what I paid for with $12 worth of synchronization. But, I like to trouble shoot to make sure that if I am replacing something it is for good reason, so I tested it with the only other App I have that sends/receives midi clock, MoDrum.
It works in sync with MoDrum, but only after some toggling of "Jitter Reduction" setting, with it finally syncing up solidly with Jitter in the OFF position.
-Could it be the HDE midi interface? Is anyone successfully midi clock syncing Gadget, and if so, what midi interface are you using?
-Could it be the lack of midi features (like Jitter Reduction on/off) in Gadget or StepPolyArp that prevents corrections to get things in sync?
-Would an app like Midibus as a master clock help at all?
Really scratching my head here. Any help is greatly appreciated.
