I found the Tera Synth too much to tweakable. It just personal flavour! PPG Wavegenerator is tweakable.

Synths that are too "tweakable" lead to no music output from me. I guess that's why gadget is making me so happy.

    +1 salute to Gadget!

  • A part of an app that exceeded my expectations is the London drum machine in Gadget. When I first played with it, I was underwhelmed by the lack of any real acoustic sounds and only 8 slots. But ... Switching out a few instruments on the right preset and kaboom. Just what I was looking for on a large project + Gadget's unmatched sequencer.

DrumPerfect is still top of the bill for me, but not for this project. Plus, can't say DP (or many apps for that matter) exceeded my expectations since they were already so high from watching @thesoundtestroom's vid review.

  • Seriously, a consortium of Devs should pay TSTR a handsome retainer for the service provided. I could probably count the music apps I bought in the last year (over 100) without waiting for Doug's seal of approval on about one and a half hands.

I added my own INIT patch to London. Makes it easy to create a new user kit every time I start-up a project in Gadget.

And Bstep driving Gadget has been a revelation.

That is something many would agree with, including me. I don't watch all of Doug's videos, but when I'm considering an app he's been a hugely valuable resource.

  • For me, Z3TA is tweakable enough to get me close to the sounds I need and love. I have yet to go thru all the hundreds of presets. Super amazing synth. I really wish I could use it inside gadget tho.

Hmm. Haven't tried this, but have been making some progress with B-Step which annoys me and STILL I like it....trouble making it dance with Gadget or pretty straightforward?

  • Very smooth, but you have to switch between Int and Ext sync within Gadget.

  • Audiobus and Sector

    Electrify NXT
Because loop start and end points in its sampler are modulate-able in real time, and can be automated using envelopes, lfos or draw able lanes. That in itself maybe doesn't pique much attention, but it's telling.

(So much dead sexy coolness under the hood of this one, I just opened it up after a few months of disuse and freaked out at it all, then I got a little blue because updates aren't forthcoming. But. Even without updates this is serious business.)
Edit: as of 3/3/15 there's some word that an update is coming:

Without a doubt Audiobus, why because it makes several apps then exceed their own expectations.

I think I agree with @knewspeak. I am relatively new to the iOS music scene and as a result I don't have a lot of experience with it, but I did have a taste of the Apple insularity regarding music early on, enough to realize that the advent of Audiobus was going to be an absolute boon - and it has been! I don't even use AB to its full potential yet, and that bodes well for any future endeavors. The AB team is always on top of things and it looks like there's no slow-down in sight! There is a lot to appreciate out there.

Caustic, hands down...... three years and I'm still truckin'.....

  • With the new AB integration, I think Audiostretch is worth a mention now.

I have a bucketload of Bukowski I've been holding onto for samples that has just exploded with the ease of this app as it is now.

I'm going to be looping up some Frippery guitar, synth arpeggios, mooing cows and chanting monks tonight. Obviously I'd rather go down the pub but it's hard to find a decent babysitter around these parts.

  • @monzo think about the app-money you're saving yourself though, how much is a pint these days? Been a long time. Course you still have to pay for the upkeep of the cows, but -upside- unhungover milk for breakfast...

It's three and a half quid for a pint of flat slops in a dirty glass around here, though I've drank worse in my time. And the cows are alcoholics so you can't drink the milk if you want to stay sober. Despite never going out I haven't bought many apps this year though....I've had seventeen quid credit on the store for ages now. I think I need to neck a few pints of dirty milk later and find something to waste my money on.

I know it's true of everything, but boy there should be a song (a shanty?) that starts with this...

You are so meant for shutterwax. Bukowski has long been Jeff's favorite author. I've only read ham on rye, many years ago, when he loaned it to me to read while I was in the hospital. I think I'm still disturbed by it!

  • @mrufino1 One should not be disturbed by Bukowski. The purpose of Bukowski was to save the rest of us from being Bukowski, although some of us have seen that look in the mirror on lost mornings....

Send my regards to Jeff. Obviously a top fellow. :)

  • Ha! Well, he's the one in Maine. Look up his cartoon called "the overbites" on YouTube, it's interesting.

it took me two years of having Hokusai pro upgrade before I realized I had to select all or a portion of the audio to apply effects/time stretch. I thought I had gotten ripped off but I was just dumb. Best App for Hidden Unrealized Value That Lies Dormant for Many Mooon Cycles.
