MIDI 2 USB Adapters
Is anyone using Edirol MIDI to USB adapters with iPad? I am not sure if I am in the market for a new adapter or a new midi controller keyboard. I would prefer to use my good old trusted Roland MIDI keyboard (which does not have USB connectivity ) - as I am not very impressed with the build quality or touch of the new MIDI keyboards. Looking at this fellows page, it seems it should work. Its a UM-1S though, not EX or SX.

I have a generic midi to usb and works fine with ipad
Thanks. Okay I guess I will try again. Does you adapter require OSx or Windows drivers to work? Mine does.
Nothing just plug and thats all. I use it for ipad and for hardware synths , midi controllers and works fine
This is an image of my usb midi

its not a big deal if I have to upgrade to a newer one. as long as the keyboard stays. i really dont like the new synth keys
I didnt know thta Edirol interface,my cable is very cheap, and the best thing is that you dont have to buy midi cables or download drivers i tested on mac and windows, and with ipad 3 and ipad air and works fine, it cost less than 6 dlls. In amazon.com
I need another usb cable and im thinking in this, but im not sure if there is a difference between this Roland and a generic usb cable, latency is not a problem on the generic.

A ten buck generic one is working fine for me. I also have an iCM2, but rarely use it lately, since I've been leaving my PC off.
I dont know for sure, but this looks like a newer version of the Edirol ones. (discontinued as well)

I am debating -- I was going to pull the trigger on Arturia Producer Pack 49 (i dont have any of the arturia soft synths) but I note online that build quality is not very good (keys popping off). My Roland midi keyboard has been rock solid for 20 years.

I wonder what the difference is between these inexpendive adpaters and something like the irig midi which appears to do the same thing? but costs a lot more?
iRig MIDI has native apple device connectors (meaning you don't require a Camera Connection Kit to use one).
it's flimsy though, at least the original version, i haven't tried the second version so that one might be better build.
yes, and that is the only difference?
I am asking because my midi usb is broken in ios 8 and i wonder if a different way of connecting might be an option
I've only used the first one. the other thing I'm not too keen on is the cable that charges your iPad while in use is extremely short but it might be possible to get a longer one I've just never checked into it.
ahh.. i did not know that! my USB camera connector cost me like $40.
Anyone know if this work with ipad? Instead of iconnect, im thinking in this

Got mine at amazon for like $5 free shipping, works like a charm!
I read online the adapters must be class compliant. I guess the one I have isnt.
Just a quick update. I am back in business. The links below were quite useful.

Basically, it works with
midi keyboard --> komplete 6 midi in --> komplete 6 plugged into powered USB hub --> powered USB hub --> apple camera adapter --> ipad
MIDI adapter I have is not class compliant and requires a driver to work. So its a gonner. I still might get a new keyboard just because I dont want to haul a komplete 6 and a powered USB with me all the time.
