Nah no limit (or not one that's going to trouble our little conference site). Got it figgered. Just SQL thingies. TBF two blokes from their support team in Egypt (Armin and Amin) were triffic considering the hosting only cost 6 bucks a month....now off into the template :)

  • @monzo more than you can ever imagine dear boy. I am all about the stumbling / it's broken! / the errors etc. But I am very gracious, patient and grateful at all times. And while I may not be a quick study, I'm very dogged, and loyal. Tell me something a dozen times and hit me also and I'll never forget....

  • Couple of suggestions and/or questions:

In the archive, is there a way to sort by date descending? Seems like by default it should give the most recent videos first, but it doesn't appear to be doing that.

Is there a way to sort by category? Such as if I wanted to only look at the effects apps, or synth apps, etc?

Also, just now pages are loading super slow for me.

  • Hey @Coloobar. Sorry for the slow load times, we've seen a big spike in our traffic since Jakob joined (yay!) but now we're having all sorts of problems with GoDaddy (boo!). On the horn with them now in fact.

If you go to archive->main, you can search by tag and by category. They both admittedly need a little more sorting from the merger. All of the archives return the most recent results up top, whether you search by our names, or from those categories/tags.

  • Leave GoDaddy as quickly as is practical! They're tools. A little pricey but we've been pleased with http://mediatemple.net/webhosting/wordpress/ so far. Ironically, GoDaddy purchased MT last year but have so far managed to stay out of the way.

http://wpengine.com/plans/ is another well loved dedicated WP host.

  • Have to say I've been using https://www.arvixe.com for a WP template direct host recently and their service (to date) has been excellent. And cheap. Not doing any commerce on it, but otherwise (and upto 25K visits a day) pretty good. So far :)

  • @JohnnyGoodyear you're allowed 25k per day or you're site is successfully handling 25k visits per day?

  • edited March 2015

@syrupcore Allowed. Apparently. Which is overkill for us. We are an inch wide/mile deep specialist type operation (in this case).

  • Thanks @syrupcore for the tips. I think I have to agree about godaddy, this has been really frustrating. :(

Yeah, allowed and handling is the difference between marketing and engineering (where engineering costs money). WordPress is brilliant but it can beat a server to its knees on a high traffic site where the server isn't optimized for it.

We all just need to up our Patreon support so that they can get on a fancy pants host (less time for @CSwinn to be kicking servers == more videos for us).

  • On that note, I wanted to say how much I like that the three of you have distinctly different styles in your videos. If at some point you add another video creator, I hope s/he will continue the tradition of not continuing a TSTR tradition.

  • I'd recommend using CloudFlare: http://www.cloudflare.com/ - great for caching and blocking rogue hook-ups that can cripple your site speed.

Thanks everyone. I don't suppose anyone would have an answer for this conundrum...

When I enter our site's address (http://thesoundtestroom.com, no www) into this speed test

    http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/

It shows a long time for both the address up top, and about halfway through the waterfall, you can see an error showing for "thesoundtestroom.com/wp-content/themes/HAQSTR/url". What the hell is that? Is there some sort of url file I'm missing?

  • Missing theme files probably

  • I'm loving the new site and new video series such as the Shutup and Play, Weekly Roundup, Patches under a Minute...all of them!

I know you three are working like crazy but I'm just curious, do you plan to continue the Radio Shows and Interviews or drop them like TSTR forum?

Either way keep it up, I totally dig it. Thank you for the coverage!

  • Yes, definitely! The animated radio shows take forever (and really don't get many views), so it might be a bit before the next one. But I really enjoy making them.

I also know Jakob has a new interview on the way in the coming weeks. We have a little sidebar widget for his latest, and everyone is encouraged to check out the radio page. Stay tuned for other big ideas in the nearish future as well..

  • Oh, and everyone bookmark the site on your device, I just added the little icons for Safari/home screen!
