The Watch

Anybody have any ideas on how this might be useful beyond something like start/stop rewind, etc?

They need to write apps or 'applets' for it, but it apparently does audio.

  • I'd be impressed if the Apple watch just kept solid MIDI time! ;-).

    +1

  • And fixed IAA and other music-related issues in iOS 8 ;-)

If they did that I might be tempted to buy a watch ....

    .... nah, probably not. :-D

  • 10000$ for the "luxus" version ha, ha.... great one! Still not sure what i could do with such a watch.... no, not for me. Sadly, it was not the worst new product (for me) in this event.
The new apple.... one step forwards.... two back! ;)

I may buy one of these.

    ... or I could just get a:

    • Mac Pro for the studio
    • mac mini for the stage
    • new iPad for the bus
    • iphone 6+ for when the bus is too crowded to get out my huge iPad
    • and have enough left over for all the Auria plugins. !!

Uups... in the german store the watch is up to 18000€ lol! And a crippled MacBook Air for 1799€. Apple is back again..... :)
For this price it should have been the mighty iPad pro with OS X and iOS. So i think no chance now for an hybrid anytime soon. Funny that means the coming iPad will be more powerful than these Macbooks but with a crippled OS. Maybe OS X is dead and iOS the future and i was so wrong.

  • Phone accessory BUT I've had three of those health bands, all of which have died, so if this replaced that etc etc.

    Nah.

So...We need an iPad with Usb port, and they made a MacBook without :-(

    What do you think about???

I'm having a difficult time understanding how the MacBook air and new MacBook will co-exist. It's very strange.

However, at least this move didn't wipe out the value of my three month old MacBook Pro, but I'll probably upgrade with the next update after this one.

Would really have liked the Yosemite update today.

I've never had an interest in the watch so none of the info on that bothers me at all.

  • I'm holding out for the electric icar.

  • Also, I still, have yet to see anyone younger than, I don't know 30? That wears a watch. I know there are a few kids out there and young adults that do, but it's hardly the market it was. Maybe smart watches will change all of that.

Hey look, I have an iphone, ipad, iwatch, macbook.... Will a person really need all that? Oh, and a classic ipod 160 gb for my music.

Bad chances for more ports in an iPad pro. I just noticed that also the not updated MacBookPro 15" raised up 249€...... ouch!
However, mobile is nice and i like the new trackpad but that's it. The core-m chips are even not faster than the current iPad Air 2.
Not sure what this all means and what will do Apple with the next iPad? Removing the lightning with this amazing new usb-c? They better put the A9 chip in the next MacBook Air instead of the iPad Air 3 or Pro.
I just hope they don't cripple the MacBook pro next time too.

  • I have a horrible feeling that something irritating is going to happen with the next iPad. Much like the lightning cable intro. Some new port in their developing storm that will cause a disconnect between the generations...doom and gloom....or it might just be that I've got a proto-teenager in the house, his mother's away all week on a junket, and the disconnect between the generations has never yawed so wide....

  • Or they put all new tech and additional 3 of these ports in the iPad Pro since they make a lot more money with iOS and OS X is just a side project anymore. Bad thing.... it will cost 1999€+ :p

    +1 for iPad Pro with USB-C :-)

So I can connect a Thunderbolt Apollo Twin to an iPad :-)

  • The adapter will cost just 99 bucks ;)

  • UAD for iOS :-)

I think this new port is extremely good. You can power monitors, and > @JohnnyGoodyear said:

You can count on it. But I happen to think things get better, albeit with some pain.

Like the USB C, which I think is pretty cool.

I can understand the usb-c thing if it allows simultaneous connections between different types of things, but I'm very curious about the price of those connections.

I'm not seeing any details on that. If you can only put one type of connection in at a time, it would be a completely insane fail.

I can't imagine pro users putting up with that in the field.

  • Just buy 2-3 devices ;)

    There it is:

    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MJ1K2AM/A/usb-c-digital-av-multiport-adapter

Would be pretty comical to have that sticking out of a MacBook, with a multi-usb hub plugged into that, with my apogee duet, iPad, and mouse plugged into that, with a non-magsafe power cord plugged into the usb-c of that apple hub.

Doubt they'll pull that kind of BS on the Macbook Pros.

  • Other bad thing about new MacBook: No Luminon apple logo on the back :-(

  • But it's thinner.....and gold!

Here what feels like a pretty on the money piece on the macbook from Wired:

    http://www.wired.com/2015/03/new-macbook-hands-on

tl;dr: ....underpowered for such an expensive machine. But good lord is it beautiful.

  • Screw the Macbook, I was pumped about HOBO announcement.

  • And the watch has always been doa for me, and probably for most of the folks on this forum, but we probably aren't their target demo.

Apple seem to think that less is more when it comes to ports, they're always trying to do away with them and it seems like the new MacBook has stripped them back to almost nothing.

After trying out (and sending back) the new iMac retina, I'm seriously unimpressed with their recent output. My 2 and a half year old MacBook Pro is faster than the new iMac, has more ports (including dedicated headphone/mic inputs), has a disc drive (yes Apple, some companies still provide software on disc) and a plethora of USB goodness.

I don't think it's a generation thing, it's a crap thing, and I share your worries about the iPad Pro. I can't keep running this iPad 2 forever...

  • For Apple MacBook Pro is a fashion item as much as a tool. They would do away with all of the ports if it wasn't for the fact that USB still remains a standard.

Just imagine stage diving with IWatch on both of your arms triggering filter swipes as you flap them in the air. That would be Awesome....less
