MIDI LE
Hey folks, I've seen a bunch of talk about MIDI over USB and just wanted to point out that MIDI LE has been out for a while and is free: http://www.s-r-n.de/midile/
I haven't used it a ton, but it seems to work fine and is worth knowing about.

Worked for me.... ipad iOS7.1 to mac powerbook not updated to Yosemite - midi going both ways.
I was running Gadget receiving midi on one channel from a mac based midi sequencer. Worked very nicely. Easy to set up.
All good.
Very generous dev making it free...
I really like it. And while "free" it is definitely donation-ware. So if you like it, consider sending the developer a little something.
Tried the beta windows version today and seems to work really well.
@fprintf - yes good point.
I just donated...
Thanks everyone
Guess it sort of is "donation"-ware.. but that's really just optional (thus very appreciated).
After all MIDI LE was never set out to compete with the other tools that are now out there, but more of a utility I built for myself in the studio.
Thanks, still not a 100% sure about how this will work out on a larger scale but I decided to make the beta public today.
gave this a quick try and it works well. when i first installed it on my pc, it told me no device was found even though i had the ipad connected. so i restarted and everything worked perfectly after that.
i did encounter some "hicups" when playing a midi from live to fm4, but i think it might be the ipad [its an ipad4] - i had fm4 and dxi running at the same time and it was wicked as hell
i did not try sending midi to the pc though, but i suppose it should work just as good. aaah this is awesome. awesomee!
Just tried the windows Beta and it's working great so far. Thanks so much for this, such a useful piece of software
Would love to try the bluetooth version on windows too when that becomes available.
Looking forward the Windows version...Thanks.
beta link is here in case you want to try http://www.s-r-n.de/midile/windowsfaq.htm
I seem to have lost connection and can't get it back. I'm thinking it might be something to do with a Windows update I just did... I'll post back here if I discover what went wrong.
Just wondering if you got the connection back, hope to give this a go, to see if I can sync my iPad (as master) running sequencers to control my PC. BTW I'll be trying it on Win 8.1.

Yes I've managed to get it back now. It seems it was because I needed to install the specific itunes version, of which there is a link on the beta page. Now I have the connection back, I've not done any vigorous testing, but looks good so far
