Liquid Rhythm

Thought people might find this interesting... http://www.wavedna.com/liquid-rhythm/

It's a desktop application (standalone, VST, AU) for creating beats and rhythms that you can Midi Out or save to a Midi file.

It's a pretty new take on authoring intricate rhythms largely bypassing the traditional piano roll approach. It has nice velocity and groove possibilities as well as simple notes.

I downloaded the free 30 day demo to my Mac and had success running live midi out (via Midi LE on USB cable) into Gadget (Bilbao) where I recorded it.

I've yet to decide if it's gonna get enough use to merit buying it (I don't use the mac very much at all for music) - but if you're interested in a new and pretty deep way of getting unique and varied midi drum patterns / rhythms into a ipad or desktop DAW then it might be of interest.

They say:

"Liquid Rhythm lets you create intricate, interesting beats with unprecedented speed and precision. It’s the first sequencer that lets you make beats using note clusters and patterns instead of individual notes. And it completely streamlines your workflow. Get started using the built-in sample library, trigger your virtual instruments, and experiment with new rhythmic patterns. Whether you use a Mac or PC, Ableton Live or other DAWs, Liquid Rhythm will help you realize your music’s full potential."

  • Big fan, me. It's taken what used to be the most tedious part of my workflow and made it creative and quick. A ton of research seems to have gone into it, and it suites my long form composition writing style perfectly. I'm still primarily a DAW user, I should add, but I don't see why it couldn't port to iOS in a more limited form someday. The closest thing I've seen to it on iOS is Gumdrops, but that's more performance oriented.

  • It realy looks good but im still trying to install,it,on windows 8.1 they need an update for install, and use it in max for live

  • Damn I'm glad I'm a drummer. Seems like drums are the biggest headache for many composers. I wish I could just come over to your houses and just record all night. And maybe have a few pints as the Brits say.

Come on over, though I have found that many drummers can be a biggest headache as well. Anyway, I'll just shut up and have a pint! Your right though, drums, like the guitar are meant to be played not programmed.

hmmm...Could I just send you the .wav files, and some of my hometown brew and have you rock out on them?
That would save both of us the airfare, lol. I'm not even sure if I can send alcohol through the mail. Maybe Fedex. :)
